Abroad I could stomach, but if we are willing to let him go to poxy Derby....

Poll: Is Micheal Mcintyre actually funny?

If, and it’s a big IF, we were to let him go I would imagine it’s safe to assume that the club are confident of bringing in at least 2 midfielders who are better than him.

He’s been the best captain and one of the best midfielders we’ve had for a good few years, but no one is indispensable if we’re really wanting to bounce back stronger.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

Perhaps his refusal to wear the rainbow armband and social media presence has also been a factor in any decision making though. The owners may feel that the captain should fully represent the inclusive community ethos / image that the club has tried hard to create.

Huge player to replace and I’m sure he’d do another good job in the Championship but he’ll be 34 soon and the midfield needs an upgrade. We seem to have been mindful of not hanging onto players for too long in the latter stage of their careers.

He also strikes me as the sort of guy who’d rather be a key figure somewhere and not satisfied with driving the standards in the background. He probably feels that now’s the time to get a longer contract, rather than wait until next summer.

For all of those reasons, I’ve been half expecting this for a while.

Can’t he have his own beliefs then? If he doesn’t want to wear the rainbow armband then it should be his decision and his decision alone.
He does more than enough on the field, always giving 100%, whether he wants to wear a poxy rainbow armband should have no factor in the clubs decision to sell him.

I understand you may not agree, but please don’t use the word ‘poxy’ to describe it. Some people care very much about it, and it has significance to it. Human kindness and acceptance are vital in this world.

And before someone says “please accept the views of the those who disagree with the armband and making a statement of support to the community”, in my opinion that doesn’t wash. Harmful views and opinions should be challenged.

Think Town would be willing to do a deal if the player was keen. Interest from the Middle East as well, I believe.

I for one would be absolutely gutted. We’re clearly not letting him go because of some big financial gain for us, and just think his experience around the squad, given Azor coming in and the link to the Mexican lad, we could use Morsy in the ‘squad’ and still think he’d get plenty of game time.

What a player, what a captain.

I don’t think for one minute the decision would’ve been made with reference to a “poxy” armband

If he does go I think the financial gain is likely to come more from getting his wages (which must be some of the highest in the squad) off the books than any fee. If doing that allows us to pay the wages to get someone in who would be a starter if we got back to the Prem while allowing Morsy to go and get a longer term contract elsewhere I could see how it might happen.

Wouldn't surprise me if he did move on this summer. I suspect he'll not be a regular starter in the season ahead, so could see him going. Derby probably not a bad move from his perspective, closer to Wolverhampton.

Genuinely think this would be a terrible move for the club.

Lots of upheaval in the back room staff and introducing overseas signings to the mix defintely brings a whole host of additional risks too.

Getting rid of the club captain on top I think would give me very very strong 2001/02 vibes.

He's unlikely to be a regular starter this season - providing we get new CMs in.

He's a vital part of our glorious past, but not the future.

Let him go if the offer suits all parties.

Actually no, because as captain he represents the team, club and fans.

Disappointing all around with how that was handled.

I’m not one of the decision makers so not much point in remonstrating with me. Not given my opinion either way anyway as cba to enter into a long debate.

Obviously Sam’s shown his beliefs so was just pointing out that the owners may feel it’s not ideal when the captain doesn’t want to fully represent club’s inclusive values. They might not be keen on some of his social media posts either. Surely you can see why that might come into their thinking, whether you agree with it or not?

Not suggesting that it’s the primary factor involved in whether to let him go or not, but might have been taken into consideration, along with everything else mentioned…and in general I can understand why the timing might suit all parties…

How about we don’t get side tracked and just look at this from a purely footballing view.
Last season was not good for him, not surprising trying to anchor the midfield in a struggling team where we simply weren’t physical enough.
He was never a player with electric pace but last season he never broke the lines and he seldom played ant killer passes.
A superb player and captain for our club and never to be forgotten for what he did in that squad of players but I think he is past his best, time has caught up with him.
Can his body last 90 minutes in two games a week?
If not can we afford the luxury of sentiment.

I think the club is being respectful and supporting Sam's future. Sometimes the success of a club falls out of sync with a players needs. He probably needs one more contract and it’s likely to be in a place that brings a family experience or near to where he wishes to settle after football. Another year with us won’t support him with any of that.

Would be a massive void to fill.

If Samy is happy here, we have to keep him 1 more year.

Regardless of their contract status, they were ITFC players last season and losing them along with the others changes the team dynamic. If they didn’t have an impact then they wouldn’t have been here. We were a stronger team with them. When you add them to the other players left/leaving it’s an entire squad we are rebuilding.

I'm surprised you didn't include Godfrey.
