I wonder if any Omari to Brentford deal could see Carvalho coming the other way on loan? They paid a lot for him last summer but he didn’t get too many minutes, then got injured IIRC. Proven at this level and you would assume he’s only going to be a better / more developed player now after a year under Frank than he was at Hull.

Presumably a player we would fancy for that central 10 role, will know Greaves & Philogene already. I guess it would depend on whether Brentford see him as part of their plans this season, no idea what Andrews makes of him.

I’m wondering if a loan for him might form part of the negotiation? He’d be a hell of a signing.

No disputing his quality but I think in our system he’s a square peg in a round hole. Do we even play with a central 10? Not sure do that much. More when we get on the front foot we play a left and a right 10. We’re so well stocked with left 10’s and McKenna likes his right 10’s left footed a la Omari and Chaplin.

We need to cut the squad down, not add more!

Agreed we certainly aren’t short of options on the left with Clarke, Szmodics, Broadhead.

Compared to the squad that finished the season we’re an Enciso and a Hutchinson down (assuming he does go) though, so I’d wager we’ll recruit there and reckon he’s one McKenna likes, we seemed to have a bit of a stiffy over that Hull side. Not dissimilar to Enciso actually, and he’s right footed.

Getting him out of Brentford is more likely to be the difficulty I imagine given they paid the best part of £30m for him 12 months ago.

Enciso was a bit out of character for McKenna - a total maverick, outrageous talent. Maybe Carvalho can be the same but just don’t see him having tonnes of Omari qualities.

Edit I’m probably being fussy. We’re not getting a copy of Omari probably. Not easy to fine.

I’ll be aroused about Carvalho if we get him

That squad that finished the season was down by two long-term absentees in Ogbene and Burns though, so you could argue we have the same numbers now (or will when Burns is back).

Personally, I think we've got enough Championship killer players in those supporting striker roles, and anyone coming in would put the likes of Broadhead and possibly Clarke or Philogene into a potentially unhappy situation. Caveat though, is that if we can get more muscular/bigger versions of ne or two of them in, it's worth doing so with one eye on the future. So one in one out there for me at the moment.

This is my thoughts too.

We've got loads of options for those 3 AM positions, and getting anyone else in probably means some of those leaving, and I think we want to keep all of them.

I had thought of that, but I also think that strategically we don’t just want to use a loan slot to be polishing a player for someone else with no chance of picking him up at a decent value - we would want a “if we go up he is ours for 20m” clause and Brentford would not do that with a player they spent 30m on, would they? They are not Manchester United!

In any event, it seems to have gone very quiet on the Omari front…. (Yet more wishful thinking)

I think there’s a pretty obvious candidate for the first one out and it’ll be very unpopular in Broadhead. Just with the depth we have for his role combined with his contract running down it’s hard to see him signing a new deal, if we have him this season I’d bet it will be his last and he’ll leave for nothing. We’d be better balanced with an Omari clone instead of Broadhead.

A great player but can’t see it. I think we need to spend that sort of money and effort on a similar 9 or cm though.

He played 19 games for them last season, I think we're barking at the moon here folks. Think he'd be great though.

I don’t think many of them were starts though, he was rumoured to be pretty p1ssed at his lack of game time.

Don’t disagree though tbh, it’s a bit fanciful. Just put 2 and 2 together with the Omari deal and possibly landed on 254

Wouldn't surprise me if Carvalho was eased in last season, as well as missing the back third through injury. Would surprise me if he's prepared to be a makeweight for this transfer aha but I'd be here for it!
