I’ve always been of the opinion he’s a good player and no more than that.
United have vastly overpaid him in that last contract, he’s pretty inconsistent over the last 4 or 5 years, time will tell if that was a united thing or not. I’d be surprised if Barca activate that option no matter how well he does. His wages plus 35 million for a 28 year old in a years time is a big investment. [Post edited 22 Jul 13:03]

At times he looks international class and a starter for England and other times like he would not have made our starting 11 last season. He has been inconsistent throughout his career, more so than any other well known player I remember. [Post edited 22 Jul 12:45]

Blueas offered me that charity bet and I didn't take it up because I am not a betting man and there are far too many variables that could prevent it going through anyway. As I explained, I am not at all surprised Barca are interested in a very decent player who has done well despite Man Utd rather than simply because he is there.
I am sure Sheringham is as upset as Blueas is. |  |

Had I taken you up on the bet, I wouldn't have that. There is an option to buy. Clearly Barca are keen to have him there and I think the phrase was "if he wears a Barca shirt it will be because he has bought a replica one!"

Been massively overhyped in the past. He's obviously had the odd really good season but mostly he's just been OK.
Scoring 10 goals a season in a man Utd team (bar the last few years) should be a given.
Man Utd massively overpaid his wages and now it's difficult to get rid. Even if we're generous and say he's "only" being £100k overpaid a week, then that is £5m a year, say over 4 years that's £20m. | | | |
