Good teams play badly but still pick up points- 23:12 - Aug 8 with 1473 views | Libero | I’m sure people are having very balanced reactions to the game. Birmingham restricted us really well and we laboured away with very little quality, making hard work of simple things too. Cajuste needs to get up to speed quick, that midfield needs support, ASAP. Ipswich Town in the Championship 🫱🏻🫲🏼 late goals
Good teams play badly but still pick up points- on 23:14 - Aug 8 with 1370 views | FrimleyBlue | We stopped a potential promotion rival from getting 3 points away first game of season when we only had 1 new player in our lineup... it's a bloody good point taken.

Point of order- they stopped us and very effectively. Having watched them play now, I’d be absolutely stunned if Birmingham are anywhere near the automatics. They can’t keep that up every week, they were fist pumping putting the ball out for a throw in FFS 😂

They're not a promotion rival based on tonight, if that's all they can muster. We were at about 25%.

They played the occasion, didn’t they? Good on them for giving it a bloody good go, the way they limited us was very impressive but watching multiple players of theirs go down with cramp tells a story in itself.

Yup, despite my annoyance at our performance (probably not helped by my alcohol consumption), the result was, at least, what it needed to be from a game of this level, at this point on the season.

Unbeaten in 25 at home and a crowd up for it like it was a cup final, was always going to be tricky as they were never going to match us fir quality and had to focus on stopping us from getting going.

TBH i think they will be, they didnt have all their new players in either and with standsfield they have a scorer. At home they probably will go unbeaten, nasty side, but one that should do well. Not many sides will cope. There CMS pressing was excellent, and the way they spray that ball into the box from midfield was lovely We did well, which is why i didn't appreciate skys version of us, that wasnt a game we were going to control. Are they a leeds no, but they are an ugly side with alot of talents in good areas.

Good teams play badly but still pick up points- on 23:24 - Aug 8 with 1193 views | Kievthegreat | Really struggled in the middle. Birmingham pressed high and we just were not good at breaking the press at all. Lots of long balls and it coming straight back. A double pivot of our last championship season would have had a field day. Taylor just doesn't seem to thrive under that pressure and Matusiwa wasn't quite up to speed IMO However they then backed off and let us grow. Once they stepped back we were able to get hold of midfield we just needed either a bit of quality or a bit of luck. We got the luck and punished Birmingham for taking their foot off the gas. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Thought Gray's class showed, Kyogo was excellent and Stansfield very Hirst-like. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see them go well, beat our press frequently, good patterns of play. They had plenty of newbies too and would expect themselves to keep improving.

Hirst was another who I thought had a poor evening. Had the touch of a trampoline; didn't hold up anything which headed his way.

I just don't see it Frimley, and Stanfield didn't look much like a scorer to me until we put in on a plate.

Problem was the ref didn't protect the forwards correctly, even on tele you could see the number of fouls hirst should have got, no different for some of brums attacks at times too, the ref got a lot wrong for both sides. The one moment hirst did bug me tho was 2nd half when he tried a 1-2 1-2 with sammy, the chance was there for hirst to hit it low but he tried the pass back..

I’ve a soft spot for Celtic due to family connections, Kyogo is absolute class.

It was a pretty tactically astute move by them, it made the game a really hard watch but gave them the base to operate from and stopped us from building momentum.

I'm normally quite a positive sort but I thought we were poor tonight. Didn't create a single chance from open play and just looked negative in general, did pick up a bit after they scored but got lucky with a penalty.

I think you’re right, but it was due to Birmingham executing their plan well and perhaps and somewhat disjointed/sub-par performance from our midfield pairing.
Good teams play badly but still pick up points- on 00:26 - Aug 9 with 778 views | ArnieM | One thing you can day about Town, is we are very resilient. Not many teams will go to St Andrews and get a point in my humble opinion. I thought Town had a very disciplined game plan ( or so it seemed to me). We remained well marshalled as a team defensively and allowed Brum possession. But Brum didnt really offer much threat for most of that 1st half, and should have been 1-0 up ourselves had Szmodics been able to get over that bouncing ball better for his shot. I thought here we go in the 2nd half when came at with a bit more aggression and we failed to deal with their passing around our box. What did please me was when Al Hamadi came on , Hirst wasn't taken off, and we had more than one striker on the pitch. That has to be a first! More to come from Town i think, but we need more players in through the door ASAP, and please keep hold of Omari.

Stansfield only scored 11 from open play last season in league one. Plus 4 penalties. Works hard but not convinced his top draw in championship.

True but on that showing Taylor and Johnson should be nowhere near, Ogbene needs time to get fit and we need to find the right system for Clarke to function

I had the same thought about the cramp. I think the two things can be true at the same time. They are a good team who will go well and we were slightly off it.

Good teams play badly but still pick up points- on 09:01 - Aug 9 with 164 views | _clive_baker_ | It’s a tough place to go at the best of times. Shouldn’t forget it’s the same outcome we got from our last visit there on our way to 96 points and them on their way to relegation.
Good teams play badly but still pick up points- on 09:10 - Aug 9 with 119 views | Herbivore | It's very odd, the consensus before kick off was that this would be one of our hardest games of the season and possibly the worst fixture we could have had first up and that we'd take a point all day long. We took a point and I'm seeing lots of people losing their heads. Is it going to be like this all season again? I'd hoped we'd left that behind. We weren't great, but we had 2 or 3 decent chances first half to go in ahead after nullifying them effectively without playing much football ourselves in the opening 20 minutes. Those saying we created nothing from open play must have missed Szmodics missing a sitter, Taylor nodding a very good chance wide, and Leif getting it wrong when in on the left (another touch then picking out a teammate would have been a better call). Brum ran their socks off and looked goosed at the end. They were dirty bastards too and the ref never really has control, made the game very disjointed. We'll be a lot better in a few weeks. Too many last night were short of football (Johnson, Ogbene, Taylor, Szmodics, Clarke, Hirst - all bit part players and/or injured last season) and a bit of confidence. The squad has more strength in depth to come as well. We take the point, we move on, and ideally we do it without pissing our pants because we didn't play like 1970s Brazil.
