Trying to put a balanced perspective on things, the main issue for me which got us so far is that the team and fans played for each other knew players where they were etc inside out , the currently players we recruited seem to be playing as individuals giving the ball away more instead of keeping it and frustrating teams. Hopefully this patient style will return .
Going forward it is vital we recruit midfielders who have leadership qualities and able to combine defence and attackers together.
Finally I dont think Ashton planned for so many players to ask to leave such as Broadhead and morsy and so this is a year of rebuilding rather than strengthening and going for automatic promotion. |  | | |  |

I think Ashton would've expected Broadhead to look at going again after a similar scenario this time last year I think it was . I also think they knew the risk of not offering Morsy the sort of deal he perhaps asked for therefore making him look elsewhere. I think MA knew full well what the risks were . For me it's the time it's taken for it to either be sorted or to conclude efficiently
As for Omari I don't think it would come as a surprise either because it didn't seem that way to us fans so why would it the CEO ?
I think given time the other subjects you write about in the OP will come back once we get a few wins under our belts and confidence is flowing , partnerships which hasn't been mentioned are create ( ala Burns and Chaplin , the Burgess ball to Hirst etc)

That can only come from playing together over multiple seasons though. Only a few players are still here but just look at our opening fixture against Morecambe a few years back, we had 11 strangers playing with each other.

Think the club expected to sell Broadhead, Omari and Delap.

What was achieved immediately prior to and during the back to back promotions was exceptional. We’re unlikely to ever experience anything like it again. That squad and the unity between players, fans, owners, media etc seems like a one off. It will be exceptionally hard, if not impossible to re-create especially as players who can operate at the next level up from that squad don’t seem to have the same approach to the game. Burns, Chaplin, Harry Clarke, Broadhead, Woolfy, Burgess, Massimo, Morsy and the others gave the impression that they were having the time of their lives and loved being part of what was happening. They were a real team, it’s very rare to find that in modern football. We’re not going to get that again and the sooner supporters accept that the better. | |

I do feel the point to prove players have been lost for been there done that players. A lot of what we achieved was players who bought into the idea, chappers being the prime example.
I currently do not get that feeling of togetherness, the partnerships have been lost. Burns and donacien on the right. Burns and chappers.
I hope we get it back, but at the moment I see what appears to be players who appear not to get it or care. |  | | |

What I don't think people realise is that the 22/23 and 23/24 promotion squads were built out of necessity and we got very lucky with recruitment in key positions and how the team gelled and evolved. Loans such as Hutchinson, Hirst etc paid off but others not so much (Williams, Scarlett etc).
We did not have the money or the attraction of a potential PL team at least until the Jan 24 transfer window to buy established players, so relied on off casts with potential.
We have tried to do the same but it's taking longer this time.
Whether we like it or not we have to look forward, we will never have the same type of team again as the club and situation has completely changed.

That’s the key point - the position we’re in now is completely different to the one Cook left, McKenna inherited. Our expectations were low - if McKenna had got us to the play offs in his first full season it would have been viewed as success. Now expectations are high with many viewing anything other than promotion as failure.
As we saw with Delap and are seeing with Omari, young players with the quality needed to improve the squad will do what’s right for them and them alone.
What comes next may be better in terms of pure footballing ability but it won’t match what we experienced as fans in consecutive promotions. As a supporter, football is about emotions. However much we want it, we’re not going to get the same attachment to a new team as we had with the 21-24 squad. | |

Agree with this but as others have said in the thread, it will be very hard to ever recreate that same mentality again given the club is in a completely different place compared to when KM came in.
What I would say is, perhaps we tried to be a bit too cute with contracts for our existing players? Hladky, Axel, Burgess and now Morsy - all could have been tied down to longer contracts had we wanted to but for reasons I understand (to some extent) the club didn't want to push the boat out.
I presume the rationale was we didn't know what league we'd be in but had we known we'd be back in the Champ then maybe we would have done more to keep the above and maintain more of the "band of brothers". We obviously though made the best decision we could with the info available at the time. | | | |
