For all the wibbling.. 10:15 - Aug 14 with 812 viewsFlittonBlue

It seems we have hit most of our main targets this summer...albeit in a time frame less than satisfactory

Cajuste - surely top target
Azor Matusiwa - obvious Morsy replacement
Kipre - solid CB option replacing Burgess
Young - experienced replacement for Axel
Akpon - on the list, how high? Who knows
Azon - same as Akpon

The only one we missed was Hackney - and hard to say thats our fault (but lets anyway) and you wouldnt be shocked if that one gets revisited at some stage over the next few weeks. Couple this with 1 or 2 young Premier League loanees which we will surely be in the running for during the last week of the window

So - the challenge now is integration and getting up to speed quickly. The glacial pace of getting players in more a result of our Championship status. Its still a good squad, and for all demands for more players in we still have 4 or 5 players left from the splurge of Prem players for double figure millions last year. I find it hard to accept failure will be down to our recruitment this summer, but hey, others will

Were all those we've got in "on the list" ?

I think this assessment is very optimistic. Azon would have been further down the list, even though we’ve been trying for a while. The way McKenna spoke after relegation—saying it was an advantage to progress with transfers sooner, knowing the division we’d be in—tells you everything you need to know.

seems to be the town way of recent years, dealings seeming to be later than ideal. Deffo more coming and going than we would have wanted, still 3 or 4 to go?

Personally don’t think the Hackney deal is dead yet. No ITK, just a feeling. Playing the waiting game.

Indeed. The handwringing from some doesn't match the summer I've seen. And I still think we may go back for Hackney, or similar. We haven't actually spent that much except on Azor, given we have parachute money, new sponsor and proceeds from Delap and also possibly Hutchinson and Broadhead. More incomings before the end of the window I expect.

Indeed - for all the optimism around the club Town are not a huge draw for top talent currently. Did bloody well to get 3 England U21 attackers through the door in the last couple of years but given the lack of investment in our youth set up over the last decades there isnt the emotional attachment from the players within our club. Its the nature of the beast, players will come and go and we have to take our place in the pecking order and try to extoll the virtues of our project. Exploding with rage everytime a player wants to leave (or is reported to want) or doesnt join us the second an approach is made is counter productive but a sign of the times.

We buit that double promotion team out of players who were, pretty much journeymen who bonded and complimented each other superbly. But that was never going to be good enough for our end game ambitions (Premier League stability) and now we have found ourselves in that betwixt and between spot inhabited by half a dozen clubs. Imagine getting there from where we were a few years back. 2 steps forward, 1 back and now uncertain times with a panic from those who expected a linear upward trajectory and are struggling to cope with the reality.

In that case, we better win some games before the deadline. He's not moving to us if we're not showing promise, regardless of no prem interest.

We pretty much hit all our targets last season too. It doesn't necessarily translate to them being the right targets.

We must have plenty of scope to invest still even if Omari doesn't go. We will have booked £20m odd of profit on Delap and Broadhead. And we've been pretty clever with how these deals are structured. Matusiwa will cost about £2m in amortisation this year, Akpom/Cajuste/Azon/Kipre will just be loan fees if we don't go up. If we do, then financially we won't care re the buy obligations.

That was vastly overplayed by the club, along with Ashtons “Attacking the market” comment!
