I’m stressed about this season more than any other I can remember 00:53 - Aug 15 with 1453 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | With the economics of football these days, it feels like we basically have two shots at promotion this year and next year. Ok that’s over simplifying it but these years are where we have the big advantage. In turn that could determine the entire direction of the club for a long long time. This off season, lots of money in, loan players for one year in and plenty of players out. If we finished short this season we would still be in a very strong financial position but in my opinion we would likely be with a new a manger and have to rebuild with loan players leaving etc and possibly an entire new direction. Also a lot of capital raising going on behind the scenes with the speed of our progression. It felt like 23/24 was a fever dream, last year in some ways was a bit of a free hit, take your medicine and come back stronger. For everyone that hated the PL experience just remember the 15 odd years before and look at clubs WBA, Norwich etc now, feels like this is our time to try and properly re-establish.

I’m stressed about this season more than any other I can remember on 01:14 - Aug 15 with 1360 views | Illinoisblue | I’m too old to be getting properly stressed (tho that won’t stop me ranting on game days) but I do think this year’s Championship is going to be wide open. Wide open. As in nothing like the four team dominance of us, Leicester, Leeds and Saints when we went up. Teams such as Bristol City, Charlton, Milwall, even Budgies have a little bit of bounce about them. And not to mention the Brady Bunch and Wrexham. Our squad as is, is not poised to run away with anything. May look different by end of window, of course. Wonder if yet again we’ll be doing important business in the January window.

It’s the little things when you live abroad but were born in Ipswich. We were irrelevant for so long, then last year I had multiple people at baseball coming up to me asking about my hometown club, Delap or talking about the actual games because I had a Town polo on. They recognized it and had heard of us, never that over here before for younger US generations. Not that most people care about that but I love it having been over here for so long. I want us to rebuild the aging stands at Portman Road and be back at the top level for future generations, 2003-2021 was so damn awful. It just feels like our chance. [Post edited 15 Aug 1:22]

Fully agree it will be a massive fail if we don’t get back up; we’ll likely never have a better chance. We have huge investment, parachute money and millions from record sales. These last days of the window feel so fking important.

I’m stressed about this season more than any other I can remember on 01:50 - Aug 15 with 1220 views | burnbudgiesburn | Don't stress it, or at least not after 1 league game! Honestly, you can lose 16-17 games and still make the play offs comfortably. We could be garbage all season and yet still end up with 2 matches to go up. For me, we are stacked with top 3 level championship players in every position aside from central midfield which is where we are short and need to sign players. We are just in that weird limbo for a relegated side where we won't really know our squad until after September 1st. I feel people are overly angsty due to the unsettled squad and because confidence needs to be rebuilt after taking beatings last season.

After many years of following the town not so much of late (attending matches) If the results are bad I have learnt to just shake my head and say ffs! Tell the Good Lady the result and move on. Of course as I did for many years actually going to the games there’s a world of difference in the feelings of a win or loss, buzzing or gutted I guess comes to mind. Still that’s all part of it I guess.

I’ve become incredibly used to us being rubbish such that I take defeats on the chin although the champ promotion season and parts of L1, I was properly nervous as knew with it was a one time opportunity that we had to take. It does feel a little bit similar now although an odd part of me is still so reflective on 23/24 that I can’t get into the swing of it. Suspect that’ll change when it’s clear where we are and who our key competition is.

We don’t have to run away with it, even when we went up, in neither season did we do that, instead it went to the penultimate game each time before we could be confident of promotion. Do you think this squad could win 29/30 matches? If so, with some inevitable draws, that’s going to equate to 90+ points, so if you’re correct and it’s wide open, then likely that would be enough for promotion. The play offs can be achieved with 23 wins, half the games. Last time in this league we only lost 4 games and this squad is much better than that one, albeit sentimentality suggest it isn’t. We’ll be fine, but it will be the usual bumpy ride in this division.
I’m stressed about this season more than any other I can remember on 07:28 - Aug 15 with 616 views | Keno | I posted a few weeks back that whatever happened last this was always going to the 'BIG' season. We had a 'free-hit' in the premier league last year, no one expected us too stay up and we banked the money. This is we are expected to return and its really important we do a Burnley rather than Luton (not that I think we will do the later but you know what I mean) Also, and I think this key, after the romance of the last 3 seasons this is where the rebuild really starts, this is where we start to become that long term sustainable premier league team, a Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth etc and not just that occasional yo-yo club Honeymoon is over time to get serious

I’m stressed about this season more than any other I can remember on 07:32 - Aug 15 with 603 views | Pippin1970 | Stress gets you nowhere in life. I've worked in mental health for years and unfortunately destroys some people. Even with the best guidance and help. As for Ipswich we like a yo-yo you never know what to expect 😂. We all supporters end of day and least we saw the big league last season. Maybe we will soon again.
I’m stressed about this season more than any other I can remember on 08:34 - Aug 15 with 479 views | itfcjoe | Once we were in that race for promotion in 23/24 it was clear things would 'never be the same again' - or at least the club will have reset for a period of 20 or so years. It's all massive high stakes stuff now, huge pressure - this season is going to be a grind rather than any fun and every dropped point a catastrophe. roll on the end of the window when we know where we are and then the 'fun' begins

That's what I loved about that season, for most of it, there was no pressure, as we weren't expected to challenge. Sure, near the end it got nervy, but even if we didn't go up it would have been a hell of a season. I don't like this season as much. I don't like that we're expected to go up. I don't like that I'm looking at the squad wondering whether it's good enough. Can I go back please?

I’m stressed about this season more than any other I can remember on 09:11 - Aug 15 with 340 views | BloomBlue | I get your points, and maybe it's because I'm an oldie, but I never get stressed over football. It's only a sport, and I've seen too many tragedies where true stress has been the result. Yes, economics would mean our best chance, if it's based on money, is over the next two seasons. But I would counter argue that while we did spend more money than some clubs last time in the Champ, the most important point was the team togetherness that got us over the promotion line. When I talk about togetherness, I'm not purely talking about the players, I'm including the fans, and I'm seeing a lot more anti feelings/negatively from fans this season. Maybe its the stress you're talking about but fans need to look at the club, understand how quickly we got to the PL, we've now had to take a step back, meaning we've had to regroup. They also need to remember that the league season isn't completed in August, its a marathon. Last season, Leeds started poorly, they even had a wobble towards the end of the season but promoted. SheffU had a better start, they were even in the top 2 when Leeds had their wobble towards the season end, but SheffU then had their own wobble in the final 6 games and didnt win promotion. The season is a marathon, some clubs start slowly, but we need to stick with the club and not get stressed over it.
I’m stressed about this season more than any other I can remember on 09:15 - Aug 15 with 324 views | bsw72 | Brace yourself, but since the mid 80s following Ipswich means that generally you get small spikes of overachievement, joy and success, last about 3-4 years. These small spikes are usually followed by a number of years of near misses, frustration and not quite making it, 5-10 years. Finally you end up with small runs of abject failure, again 2-3 years etc. And then the cycle repeats. After 40+ years of living through it, you'll soon lose not to become stressed about it, doesn't mean the days of joy or frustration are reduced in anyway, you just realise that stressing about it changes nothing.
