Chaplin kick for territory 17:07 - Aug 17 with 1698 views | DublinBlue84 | Can someone explain to me why in the second half Chaplin kicked a free kick as hard as he could aimlessly into the opposite corner of the pitch. Was there something I missed when he was giving the ball back for somthing?

Chaplin kick for territory on 17:10 - Aug 17 with 1613 views | ArnoldMoorhen | I think he was pre-empting a run by Ogbene, maybe he twitched but didn't go, and so it sailed beyond him. Plus he was just trying to speed the transitions generally, so he was showing the team how we should be anticipating and playing.
Chaplin kick for territory on 17:10 - Aug 17 with 1612 views | jasondozzell | It was a quick bit of thinking by Chappers, clever idea, unfortunately our forward players didn't spot it. They would have been in it they had. Would rather he try things like that than not.

This wasn't a kick to a player though, the ball landed nowhere near where any of our players were, there was nobody within 15 yards of it. It almost looked like a boot out of frustration.

That pass to Ogbene was a moment of real class.

May have been, I know he tried it later and it came off but the earlier one looked completely aimless.

Just a chemistry thing I’d imagine. Ogbene injury last year means he’s pretty much a new signing too, will take time for each to understand the other.

Looked to me like it was a really well timed connection that sailed further than intended. Don't think it was anger, though I doubt he was too pleased at being bundled into the hoardings.

Chaplin kick for territory on 18:11 - Aug 17 with 1037 views | thorpedo | He was trying to whack it into the Southampton player who wasn't retreating in an attemptto bring it to the ref's attention - but ended up missing him and wasting the free kick!

Chaplin kick for territory on 18:21 - Aug 17 with 958 views | Swansea_Blue | I thought he looked really lively and more likely to make anything happen from the little I saw. That was a lovely cross field ball for Ogbene that he was then unlucky not to hit the target from the following cross. Could have done better on his header too, but at least he was making things happen and getting in the right spots. There’s an argument for starting him imo. Szmodics looks off it.

Chaplin kick for territory on 18:57 - Aug 17 with 812 views | TheBoyBlue | He was doing what we need to do far more of which is thinking outside the box, being quick and making something happen. Didn't work out this time, but we're so much less predictable with him in the team. The quick long passes round the corner, the sudden shots and even that header whilst laying on the ground. At least that's what it looked like!

Yes thats exactly what he was doing. He saw the goalie off his line and went for goal...hes done that a few times over the past couple of seasons, hes never scored from it but i think i remember him hitting the crossbar once [Post edited 17 Aug 19:02]

I couldn't see it that well as I am closer to Sir Alf's stand, but when Szmodics was put through, why did he try and cut inside rather than just running in a straight line? All he had to do was keep running and if someone took him out they would have been sent off. His couple of sidesteps to move nearer the centre of the pitch allowed the centre half to intercept. Did he have a bad first touch? Agree RE: Chaplin.

He didn't try to cut inside, his poor touch took him that way.

Was watching on sky - pretty sure he had realised he wasn’t quite quick enough to get away so he was trying to angle his run slightly to put his body was between the closest defender and the ball, meaning that the defender would have to go around him or risk taking him out and red card. Touch was a bit too heavy and ended up letting the defender get a touch. Right idea I think, but very slightly off on execution, which I think sums up a lot of our attacks!
