Crowd were very quiet today 20:56 - Aug 17 with 3773 viewsCopfordBlue

Hopefully it was just the midday kick off. In our promotion seasons the crowd were a factor in the late goals, borderline decisions in our favour, digging in in those final minutes etc. Other than the stadium being full, today was reminiscent of the atmosphere during the Marcus Evans era.

Seemed pretty loud up until they equalised. The ref did his best to be centre of attention which didn’t help.

Wonder what our record is in early kick offs. Don't remember us winning many ganes that have kicked off early. Whenever I see an early kick off my heart sinks.

I thought it was alright (NS lower), especially the first 20m when it was really loud. Early goal obviously helped. Most importantly, didn’t start getting on the players’ backs when Southampton equalised and they were looking strong.

Lot stayed to clap the team off at the end, loud KM chorus as well.

All in all, good, and will just get better as the team gels — which it did in the second half.

I’d add, obviously the atmosphere will be good when we’re winning game after game off the back of a promotion.

Part of it depends on where you are in the ground. I’ve moved seats this season and am sitting North Stand side of the directors box and I thought the atmosphere was pretty good. Plenty from the NS - couldn’t hear anything of the Southampton people.

The crowd was never the loudest and the acoustics of NS is poor thanks to its design. What’s nice was the crowd was not hammering the players in the way a significant number on here are. They stayed with the team.

It was an enjoyable game despite us not being a proper team at the moment and a draw from a match we might have won.

likewise from the lower tier of the same stand. Thought the crowd were ok and better than many games. Saints very quiet

I’m one to criticise the atmosphere… but I thought it was OK on 10:10 - Aug 18 with 427 viewsunstableblue

A pretty good start helped by the TIFO, some good early noise

But it did drop off when Saints had a spell first half and the goal

The one thing to say about second half, our team delivered excitement, we could have done more.

What I think the issue with the PR atmosphere is that it’s becoming quite concentrated in Block A and Lower North, the west stand side of lower North is getting better.

Upper North seems to be quieter?

And the west stand and Cobbold are becoming non existent

They need on certain songs to really join in en masse.

Maybe that will come with success.

I think it's like much of what is happening at PR at the moment. The initial enthusiasm and being bookies favourite, which means zilch actually, seems to have been dampened by a moderate start after seemingly coming into the season in reasonable form.
Several areas and I think especially midfield and lack of impact players available to come on has jolted fans into the reality which in fact was always there that promotion is no certainty.
What effect that would have if promotion wasn't achieved is anyone's guess.

The players picked up on it. When Town scored they were trying to gee the fans up. Still got a hangover after last season

Atmosphere was a bit better than I was expecting tbh. Midday Sunday absolutely stinks as a kick off time.

I don't really understand this logic. What difference does the time of the game make to the atmosphere? Are people less desperate to see us win because it's a Sunday at midday rather than a Saturday at 3pm?

I think most of the players we had songs for have left so maybe its time to get some new ones going!

Less time for pints beforehand

Yep, I was only watching on TV but it was really quiet at times. I often compare our ground with the City Ground and the Forest fans make that a real fortress with the noise level they generate. We seem to start off well with the noise, then the level 'peter out' and it becomes a library over large periods of the game, it is rarely sustained.

That’s my point. Going back as far as Sir Bobby with his “zombies” comments and up until recently I’ve always been quite envious of the atmosphere at a lot of grounds with a similar size fan base and capacity to our own but for a few years it’s been excellent. Today felt like a return to the Portman Road atmosphere of old. The tifo was really good today. The irritating new (ish) bloke with the microphone doesn’t help and the pre-match music is a bit tired and predictable. Hopefully it was the early kick off and things will get back to the new normal.

As always with this stuff it depends where you sit and even sometimes which way the wind is blowing.

For the game, time of day, thought it was fine. But someone will always find something to moan about.

Like id complain they've turned the mic down for the announcer, couldn't hear a damn word he said all game.

The pubs weren't much better, either, afterwards.

Did everyone have to rush home for their 3pm Sunday Roast?

I thought that, it was dead within an hour of the game ending
