Is that a new rule for this season, that no attacking players can be within 1m of a defensive wall?
Seems almost every week last season players were joining the end of the defensive wall, or standing in front of it. |  |

2019-20 apparently. I was thinking the same, but maybe they were running out of the way as it was hit? The rules says “when three or more defending team players form a wall, all attacking players must remain at least one metre from the wall until the ball is in play”. |  | | |

I've been getting pulled up on that rule for years in sunday league when i try to shove the whole wall out of the way. It's funnier if you could see how small i am. Mind you australia amateur football has weirdly got sin bins for dissent. | |

It makes sense as a rule but it's odd it's never been enforced until now. I'd argue more often than not you'll see an attacking player effectively in the wall, let alone less than a metre away from it. |  |

I think Ref's, and VAR have been instructed to look for pushing/blocking on set pieces this season and maybe the pushing by Guehi highlighted his proximity to the wall? In the blurb I heard I think on Sky I didn't hear anything specifically about them looking at the 1m rule though.
Ignoring the wall though, do we not think Guehi pushing was enough to merit a free-kick? I could be alone in this but seemed a little more than leaning into him, it looked excessive to me and not sure how the Chelsea counters it with equal pushing and then Palace player drops to floor and possibly a pen given. | | | |

This rule has been around for a few years now and it has been pretty well observed sometimes you see a ref mark a spot a yard in front of the wall , VAR right to rule the goal out . |  | | |

The way footballers try to get away with whatever they can when there's a dangerous free kick or corner makes the game impossible to referee as there is so much holding & blocking. A referee can't see everything so understandably most choose to ignore it & occasionally take the soft option of giving a free kick to the defending team, usually for a near non existent foul on the goalkeeper. VAR is worse than useless as all it might do is show 2 or 3 fouls by both teams & all it ever seems to do is disallow a goal. |  |

It's been enforced throughout. Stopped all the nonsense with people standing in the wall etc. But always dealt with in the setup rather than after the event. | | | |
