All guesswork really. We don't know if this is even true. Even the EADT now seems to have everything down as "Transfer Rumours"
Whilst we don't want the cat letting out of the bag as it where I do feel it's frustrating and annoying that transfers seem to take forever and entail jumping through hoops for agents and always include sell on clauses because there is little or no loyalty on either side and as has been seen with Hutchinson if you want to move you just down tools.
What other contract can you get away with that.

I think we all expected us to go back for him, as he realised he wasn't getting the PL move he wanted.

I guess it's whether he thinks PL clubs will do something on deadline day as they get desperate or he holds off until January, which isn't normally when PL clubs want untested younger players from the Champ.

I would imagine now we have more money, we can offer him a greater, lets call it 'incentive' to sign.

That'll be modern football at the more elevated levels, sadly. The players and agents hold all the aces. I've grown fairly pragmatic about it.

I spoke earlier in the thread about Hackney being a northern boy and very settled there. I do feel that Jack Clarke gives off similar vibes. He doesn't seem.... happy or enjoying his football. Hasn't played with a smile on his face since being down here really. I guess, when you've lived here all your life, you don't realise how big a move it is to go from somewhere like Redcar to Suffolk.

EDIT: Not saying Redcar is nicer than Suffolk, just that it's probably a culture shock for a 23y/o lad brought up on parmos.

He is 23, not 12. 18 year olds leave home to live all other the country or futher away every year for university, footballers are not different to other humans and are capable of moving around, even ones from the north.

All the indications I've heard are that he told Boro in no uncertain terms he didn't want to join us. If the change of heart is only because we may be offering an even bigger basic wage, is that someone we really want? I get the feeling that he's a proper northern boy and doesn't really want to up sticks.

I do have a bit of an inside track from 'boro on this one. Unfortunately not with any definitive information, but I can say with certainty he is not hung up about staying at Middlesbrough. He does want to leave.

I think he may only be interested in prem teams but the money we're offering is likely mental compared to his current salary.

It's not exactly far - about 4.5 hours by car. I did it routinely when I studied in Newcastle.

I called this a while ago and said if no PL interest came, which I think he was holding out for, we'd go back in - never thought it was dead. He will have to weigh up whether staying at Boro and the relative limits that gives financially or getting nearly 4x his salary is better for him personally. I know what I'd do. I think money will talk in the end

Positive news imo! I trust FLW with my life.

Hackney was MOTM in the Millwall game.
