"But at the end of the day, what will make us successful is not whether we bring in one player or four players in the next week, or whether we lose one player, two players or no players. It’s going to be culture, how we work, how we push and how we do that together.

“That’s where my focus is. Hopefully we have a good last week of the window, but it’s all the other stuff that’s going to make us successful."

Why even bother with a transfer window then?

KM pretty much always knows the right thing to say to the fans.... but he wants the best players to be here as much as anyone.

KM is always honest and fair. He's never patronised the supporters or fed them a line. He has always shown great respect and recognises that we have have/had (mostly) a knowledgeable following.

Of course he wants the best players. But in the end it's culture and work that will be more important.

Tbf he can hardly say ' we are desperate. The numbers are here but the quality isn't'

Culture and how we do it is one thing having that extra quality is what gets you over the line.. see hutch in the promotion season.

If there no further additions. This side doesn't go up. It'll compete no doubt but imo no chance it would finish top 3 with the current midfield and striker options.

Here's to a positive week :)

He's said how short handed we are in multiple areas of the pitch after games recently I would imagine he's been quite frustrated since July.

Please, mate. Please stop the BS. I know you mean well, but it's a bit child-like, clinging onto every word and sentiment coming from his mouth as if he's a god. He's flesh and blood like all of us.

He is very good at communicating what he is thinking. He is also good at being diplomatic. He is also good at giving content in answers and not pretending to answer a question. If he has no comment, he will actively say so. All of that is great. And I appreciate his intelligence, skills and honesty no end.

And he also knows what the transfer situation is right now inside the club, which we don't. He knows which players we're in for. So if he says that the difference between 1 new player and 4 won't make us successful, he says that with knowledge of what specific players we're after.

In the abstract it's of course nonsense to say that 3 really top quality signings can't make the difference between success and failure. Plainly they can. But if he says that's not going to be the case for us, then we must take him at his word and expect disappointment.

The idea that AAH (even when fit) is good enough is for the birds. Our strikeforce is obviously not as he would want it. It's not as anyone in their right mind would want it.

If we only bring in one more player, that will be a huge disappointment, given that our promotion squad has leaked away like a bath without a plug, and it continues to do so. Previously we had togetherness. Players were content to sit on the bench and play their part when selected. That is manifestly not the case anymore. Wolfy next. Which brings us to the culture that Kieran talks of. A good manager makes progress in the areas that he considers most important. Have we made any progress in our culture in the last 2 years?

We have less togetherness than 18 months ago, and for all of the millions spent, I'm not convinced we have a better squad, even of individuals. I hope the league table proves me wrong very soon. Our first league goal from one of our own players from open play would be a good start. There is a lot resting on Hirst's shoulders. One injury to him and we're absolutely f***ed.

I was content to wait until the end of the window to judge. But these comments are clearly paving the way for what we should expect over the next 10 days.

Just remember, for a bit of balance, that the team who got us promoted to the EPL were arguably weaker on paper than the current squad.

Kieran is right that the most important things are team togetherness and execution of a clear and effective game plan.

Whatever happens, he knows he has to deliver the right tactics, and the players have to deliver those tactics.

It's premature to judge the squad right now.

He's not a god but he's an outstanding manager and his comments should carry weight.

Then why not hang onto our existing double promotion players who know team togetherness and how to execute plans.
It's been pretty obvious we've been trying to bring in a new group of players and replacing our old faves. I've been told by the TWTD elite that we have to bring in PL ready players for when we get promoted next season.
Now what I'm hearing is that we just need togetherness and group spirit. Sorry, it is what it is and whatever happens, happens. but please don't dress it up too much if we fall short this transfer window.

This take is honestly unbelievable.

It was a brilliant interview and Mckenna is spot on.

In fact, any top class leadership team will tell you the same. It's why top performing teams/organisations spend millions on training based around culture.

Because we needed better players than those who brought us from L1 to even attempt to be competitive in the Prem. Plus the stalwarts are two years older, some approaching the latter stages of a footballing career.

In any case, squad togetherness can be drilled and practiced, just as McKenna did it when he first came here. That was also a team shaken up by the summer of Demolition Man, without any of the positive vibes or heritage from our last three years.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Stop being so un-realistic and deluded... we love the dude and he's a likeable, smart guy who talks well.... but I've heard so many corporate smoothies talking culture and team spirit and any other corporate b0llocks that I don't get taken in anymore. Kieran wants good players through the door - first and foremost.

Hirst gets injured… here’s our new number 9: Good Culture.

Hirst gets injured, our new number 9 is Chuba Akpom, who I think we'd all agree is a big upgrade on Freddie Ladapo who was our back up number 9 this time 2 years ago in a season where we went on to get promoted. Some perspective is needed from some quarters.
