Sebastian Caceres deal to reach conclusion in next few days… 17:07 - Aug 22 with 3592 viewsKieran_Knows

… player wants to join us.

Sebastián Cáceres, América de México, and Ipswich Town from England are negotiating the transfer of the defender to English football.

The player is pleased with the idea of a transfer and that the second division of England, the Championship, would be the first gateway to Europe.

The negotiation is ongoing and on good terms, and in the coming days, it should reach a resolution as the closing date of the European summer transfer window approaches.

Sebastián Cáceres has a contract with América until December 2027.

Really interesting transfer this. Slightly puzzling, but not in a McAteer way.

Could this signal 3 at the back on occasion? Which of our two regular starters would miss out if not? Surely the plan is not to shift O'Shea to RB, as well as he's deputised when needed. Caceres wouldn't come here to warm the bench would he? Who knows...

But please, we need someone to stick the ball in the net at the other end.

It’s obvious he’d want to come to us. Why stay at the most successful club in Mexico when you could visit Stoke on a wet and windy Tuesday night in February? 😬

I don’t know which side he normally plays on. I can’t see O’Shea being dropped, but I could Greaves. 3 at the back suits Leif and Johnson but we’ve got 300 forwards and KM likes to play 3 behind the striker. So I’d assume Woolfie is moving on and this is his replacement to fight it out with Greaves for a starting spot in our usual back 4??

He's right footed, but I think he's OK with either foot.

I imagine this is a Woolfy replacement.

Much as people are obsessed with a 'best 11' and a 'settled side' I refuse to accept that rotation and having as much of an interchangeable squad as possible is not a good idea.

If we're going well in the league and can afford, points-wise, to bed new players in and give other players a rest (even defenders!) then it can only be a good outcome for a squad in an injury crisis and in terms of experience for seasons to come - and for the value of any of those players who would otherwise not get so much exposure and experience.

Wonder if this guy could actually be a Tuanzebe replacement rather than Wolfie? Tuanzebe was more of a hybrid CB/RB allowing Davis to bomb on. Not necessarily this season but next season when we’ll want someone a bit more defensive in that position and Young will have moved on / into coaching. Bring him in this season and get him in and around the squad and up to speed. Just struggling to see him agreeing to come in when he’s realistically not going to be getting game time unless O’Shea is injured

Aug 17 v Tigres
'Caceres bounced back into the starting lineup against the UANL team after staying on the bench in the previous clash. His addition formed a three-man back line along with Ramon Juarez and Israel Reyes, although there's no guarantee that this will continue to be the case in the future.'

Right footed

That would be nice. I’m not sure Toluca would be too chuffed if Club Americas threw in Ruiz as an extra though!

Folk used to stop at Copdock interchange now it’s the gateway to Europe. How times change. It would be fine if Mexico sends its younger talent to Ipswich as a gate way to Barca or Madrid, that cash money!

I'd thought that too - no one played that role quite as effectively as Tuanzebe (maybe Janoi in league 1), and it's clearly something that McKenna likes.

There is no way he will sign unless he is guaranteed starting.

If McKenna is going to play 3 at the back then fine but imhe is reluctant to change his way of playing.

It has to be Grsaves who drops out surely if it's a back 4!
