Performance or win today? 07:39 - Aug 23 with 1248 viewsjasondozzell

We need a win today to settle all the recently arrived glory hunters down...but whilst that's the case it's still performances that are really important for long term goals at the mo. We definitely stepped up on Sunday. I know KM hasn't had long this week but hopefully we see even more progress of his time with players. Thought Azor looked good on Sunday and hoping to see more of the patterns with him today as well as the break up play.

Also feels like Philogene is beginning to fire.

Feels like we could do with a win, just to ensure that we keep in touch with the league leaders early in the season. Fall too far behind and the pressure and anxiety starts to build in us fans.

Any kind of win would be good and demonstrate that, even in this state of flux, we can go to awkward places and pull through.

Yeah that's true. otherwise the moaners will be gleeful and it will turn into another issue and distraction. Win today and all of that falls away.

Yep. Hopefully we show that we're continuing to find out rhythm and football but 3 points from a scruffy goal will still do nicely.

Win, always a win.

Anything less today and we’ll be starting to play catch up.

Win.

We’ve lost that winning ability. Need to get a couple of quick wins under our belt.

Exactly. 3 points over performance every single game

I think one leads to the other. If we play well today (it's too soon to 'play to our best' but I mean getting more towards it) then we ought to win. I feel like a scruffy performance is unlikely. As time goes by we'll be playing better, not going backwards, you'd expect/hope.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

No disrespect meant to Preston, this described us for a decade: they're a truly bog-standard Championship team. McKenna's stressed their physicality but we've just come down from the most physical league in the world. I'll be very surprised if they finish in the top half.

A win today would do lovely, settle the nerves. We haven't won a league game this calendar year*, which is a rough ride no matter the opposition. Sooner we break that run, sooner we may begin the new upwards curve in our hero story arc.

*Wrong

Need the win but I do think it will be a draw.

Indeed. Altho I think this is going to be another quite tough away fixture. I'd take a scruffy 0 - 1 to us over a beautiful performance but only a draw.

I do agree, but think the "League leaders" are perhaps a bit of a chimera at the moment.

Stoke have only played Derby (at home) and Sheff Wed. Not sure they're going to be able to keep up the same form against the rest of the division. WBA have played Wrexham and Blackburn, the former still trying to find their feet at this level. Boro somewhat stronger opposition and perhaps justifies their current position.

Win, but let’s hope for both. It’ll click soon I’m fairly sure of that.

Im in a camp of saying its win at all costs and not just this week but over the next month or so, I think we need as a new squad to find that mentality, feeling and establishment.

I think the nice football then comes as a bi product I trust mckenna to take care of that and hopefully we land some big targets this week to help enable it.

Agreed. And I’m usually all about the performance. We need to keep in touch at the top end of the table.

If WBA can keep hold of Tom Fellows and the likes of Issac Price in this window, I fancy them as a bit of a surprise package this season.

Win.

Another draw or loss, and the leaders will already be starting to build a sizeable lead. 3 points from 3 games would be a notably poor start for any team with promotion aspirations, let alone the bookies' favourites who've got loads of cash, no points deductions hanging over them, and who managed to hold onto their manager.

5 points from 3 games, however, would constitute a decent start, having played 2 away games and the other 2 most fancied teams in the division.

Agree re Philogene. No idea how optimistic it's reasonable to be about Clarke, but I think Philogene may well have a great season. Here's hoping.

Need a win for a few reasons.

1. just to give squad confidence a bump after a long non winning streak

2. 2 or 3 points from 9 would not be a great start. Not the end of the world, but not great

3. See point 2 - would it make it harder to attract say a Hackney last minute?

Always a win first, performance second.

Having considered recent statements from O'Shea, Greaves & Palmer about having a settled defence with familiar personnel, then considering our last visit to Deepdale. I asked AI when we last kept a clean sheet away....

Ipswich Town have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 21 league games, a run that includes all away fixtures.
The club's last away clean sheet occurred before this current streak, but the specific date is not available in the provided context.
