Woolfy staying then - feels right (n/t) on 22:28 - Aug 29 by Pinewoodblue | We are required to have one former academy player in the matchday squad doubt it will be anyone who played for U21’s tonight. |
Not required, just means you can only have 8 subs instead of 9 if you don’t.

Isn’t that a UK academy player not just an ITFC academy player, so Johnson, for example, meets that criteria,

Has to be someone developed at the club before a certain age - 19? So Woolfenden and Humphreys both count.

Could be a reason Barbrook stays. Doesn't count to squad number through age and is a academy product. He really should be getting a loan in L2 or L1 ( if possible) , but he's a lot closer to the squad than the other u21's. It would be pretty galling we want Woolfy to stay only because we can have 9 subs. And we're going to have plenty of competition on the bench and we dont really need both Kipre and Woolfy.

After the Southampton game, McKenna indicated Humphreys would be in the squad which made me think Woolfy was on his way out. Humphrey also offers more options from the bench.

He has been unsettled now for most of last season and this. It can be said he hasn't let anyone down when he has played whereas although I believe Greaves to be a decent player he has been prone to mistakes. Whether a more secure midfield will make the situation better we will see.

Let’s be honest, if was that unsettled he was an idiot to sign a new contract. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think it was all down to the belief that he would be a starter if we were relegated, with the thought that O'Shea would leave if we went down. He could accept being a squad player in the Premier League, but in the Championship it's tougher to handle. I do agree he should not have signed it, though. What I will say is he hasn't taken things as far as others yet. All he's done is post something cryptic on Instagram. He hasn't yet refused to be in the squad, or been such an unsettling influence that McKenna has told him to train elsewhere. If he wanted to force a move he could turn the screw like Isak, Wissa and Hutchinson.
