Another round of dismal lopsided spirit-crushing international qualifiers on 17:05 - Sep 7 with 1665 views | EastTownBlue | That’s the problem at this time of year. Play a few matches to begin the season, then an international weekend. Another few matches and it’s the October international weekend. Repeat for November. I have long given up on watching qualifiers. [Post edited 7 Sep 17:09]

Another round of dismal lopsided spirit-crushing international qualifiers on 17:27 - Sep 7 with 1548 views | Nthsuffolkblue | It is a shame that so much football has become devalued including international football. Not sure what the answer is. Maybe a longer break where international squads get together and play half their matches over two breaks in the entire season?

I never watch England now until the actual World Cup or Euros. I don’t think I could name most of the squad, because they just don’t have any characters anymore in the team. They are all just functioning robots for the best part.

The answer is always the same - fewer games, but neither UEFA nor FIFA will cut back. We should scrap the League Cup, but if other fixtures are reduced, the big clubs go on marketing trips to America or Asia.

Another round of dismal lopsided spirit-crushing international qualifiers on 09:02 - Sep 8 with 801 views | SWLondonBlue93 | I would much prefer one longer break than three or four short breaks per season, treat qualifiers like a mini-tournament. Or just play them all after the club season. I don't see how the current setup suits anyone, it is so disruptive and encourages players to pull out with the most minor and tenuous injuries.

Those functioning robots have been more successful in international tournaments than most of the previous generations. The 70s and 80s saw complete failure on the worlds stage and the international team didn’t even qualify for the 94 WC.
Another round of dismal lopsided spirit-crushing international qualifiers on 09:39 - Sep 8 with 675 views | Radlett_blue | But I hope the handful of remaining fans enjoyed the England team's "lap of honour". Maybe some genius felt this was a good way for the team to acknowledge the crowd, but given it was a lop sided qualifier against a minnow, this was always going to be a terrible idea.

Presumably due to this ? 'World governing body Fifa is still to rule on South Africa erroneously fielding Teboho Mokoena in a 2-0 home win over neighbours Lesotho in March when the midfielder should have sat out game through suspension. South Africa admit their mistake but say that because their opponents did not protest, they will not lose the three points.' https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/live/cqjy598ney4t

Although qualification was much harder then, with a 16 team World Cup until 1974 and only 4 teams in the Euros finals, which became 8 in 1980.

Other big European countries still qualified for those tournaments though.

The trouble is there are a load of significant leagues that play their seasons from February - November largely due to weather and other competitions. Two would make perfect sense though. 3 weeks in October, 4/5 weeks in June/ July and you would halve the disruption and probably improve the commercial product. [Post edited 8 Sep 12:55]

Another round of dismal lopsided spirit-crushing international qualifiers on 12:42 - Sep 8 with 258 views | Exiled2Surrey | In fairness, the likes of Wales, Scotland, ROI, N Ireland all had decent competitive games - so the dismal nature of the England game was not replicated everywhere. Isn't the solution that we need to have a sensible cut off rather than lose the qualifiers altogether?
Another round of dismal lopsided spirit-crushing international qualifiers on 13:18 - Sep 8 with 171 views | franz_tyson | I wasn't in favour ot the European Super League ( might now be more willing to rethink that after our PL experience), but what about a breakaway international tournament. How immoral would it be to break away from incredibly corrupt organisations like FIFA and UEFA? IEven it on putting on the table might scare them into restructuring the tournaments. Too many meaningless lop-sided qualifiers and tournament size should be reduced to a reasonable size and be a challenge to even get there.

When the obviously corrupt decision to hold the World Cup in Qatar was announced, I thought there was a golden opportunity for the big European countries & the USA to leave FIFA & announce their own slimmed down 16 country competition, involving the big European countries, USA (natural hosts) Brazil, Argentina plus the 2 top countries from the Africa Cup of Nations.
