I did consider suggesting that too and then thought the same … but I noticed the other day 3 of our rivals are considering him.

Birmingham City, Wrexham and West Brom are all interested in signing English midfielder Dele Alli on a free transfer. The 29-year-old recently terminated his deal with Italian club Como.

From BBC sport website …. From daily mail.

Off to Wrexham, isn’t he?

How many clubs has he been at since he was any good?

If he became a bog standard Championship player then good for him personally as he's been sliding downhill for years. But clubs aren't taking him on for that - they're taking him on so they can unlock the England player from years back. Like we did with Phillips. Odds are it will be another no show.

If Bitcoin were a footballer…

You can’t see or touch his talent, but people say it’s there. Someone will invest in this bag of magic beans and either end up on a yacht or living in a caravan.

Hugely risky investment from a magician who made himself disappear.

Absolutely not. Would rather we didn't sign anyone if it meant avoiding him.

Regardless of who might be available as a free agent, I don’t see that we’ve left a free spot in the squad. With Townsend not registered and Walle Egeli U21 not counting, we already have 25 players that will likely have been registered last week.

There won’t be anymore incoming until the next transfer window as I see it.

Spookily this video came up in my feed yesterday for some reason...pretty much nailed it:

Well the answer is we don’t have a squad space, so no.

Even if we could, based on his last few years, why?

Taking on a career resurrection project didn't work out too well with Phillips last season. Plus I don't see we really need him.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Bit strange to get a down vote for asking a question and starting a discussion! 😄

I think the difference is that we've got a strong team now and he is a wildcard who could come good, whereas Phillips I think was relied upon to be an integral part of the team and didn't meet those expectations.

Although irrelevant unless we didn't register one of the 25 senior players we have in the team.

It would certainly make shipping Chappers off to Pompey an even more bitter pill if we went down this avenue!

I would love it to work out for Deli Alli now, but fear that he's got too much baggage and too many demons to slay.

I sort of hope he retires quietly and enjoys life.

And we can now draw a line under speculation about free agents.

Not sure we sign Akpom, and let Chaplin go to sign Ali

Not worth the risk, some player in his day, doubt he ever will be again, which is such a shame.

We signed Phillips and couldn’t get a tune from him, no point repeating the same mistakes.

We’ll need to address the elephant in the room soon, that a lot of players haven’t improved from our coaching, and have gone seriously backwards.

Not sure that’s an environment where Ali would see himself.

He likely needs a winning team and culture and environment where players are improving. At the minute, that’s not us.
