Far right politico Charlie Kirk just shot in the neck in Utah 20:24 - Sep 10 with 6544 views | ElderGrizzly | Was speaking at a University event and appears to have been shot (from distance) in the neck. And actually shot, not the Donald Trump kind. Horrific whatever your political views and has no place in politics
Far right politico Charlie Kirk just shot in the neck in Utah on 22:53 - Sep 10 with 749 views | ITFCson | When I was younger I had a great affinity with America. Fast forward 30 years and it’s hard to think of many worse places to live. Wtf is wrong with their people - gun crime so common. I don’t take much notice of politics so my knowledge is poor but seems the simple answer is to ban guns. I was only wiki’ing Charlie Kirk this morning after watching some of his videos. Obviously he had polarising views but to be shot at by some cowardly lunatic is just shocking. RIP.

Homicides by gun crime was much worse 30 years ago, actually this is when it was at it's worst.

Wow. At least you're honest about what would happen to those you disagree with if you had the power. Radical leftists are usually more machiavellian.

Well there's a stretch, all I have said is my sympathy levels for him and his family are less than for many. Not that I have no sympathy or favour assassinating people! But you do you!

Dude… I’ve defended you on here and have a lot of time for you, but that’s a really awful take, really inhumane.

They'd shot dead three presidents by 1901 so not convinced it's a new problem.

Far right politico Charlie Kirk just shot in the neck in Utah on 23:17 - Sep 10 with 492 views | Swailsey | It is awful that he has died, horrific, terrible and there’s no place for it. But. I find it extremely sad that so much coverage is being given to this, so much outrage on certain platforms, when atrocities around the world are now barely mentioned. This is in no way a comment trying to damped the significance of the murder - it’s abhorrent. But the media and so many people’s minds are just so easily swayed and led. A man in is shot in a familiar environment to many and people are over it like a fly on sh*t, but where is the wider daily public outrage from our leaders about the rest of the world’s crimes? Somehow it seems to be a pattern that the moment deaths become so large and so frequent, people almost detach themselves from them and see them only as a number. “X reported dead in Gaza today” appears DAILY on the news, almost as a passing thought. Where’s the outrage about that? Why aren’t people shouting up and down endlessly? Every life is as important as the rest right? Or does it only count if it’s caught on camera and sent around Twitter? This may well be coming across badly, but I always think about it at times like this. Where was the coverage when the American solider immolated himself in the name of Gaza last year? It was buried. There was literally 1 post and 3 replies about it on here. RIP to CK, sincerely. But the world is so fu*ked and uneven. [Post edited 10 Sep 23:33]

What doesn't help Swailsey I think is that there isn't much 'idiot proof' explanations about the whole Gaza situation. I'm as thick as they come when it's about the world and politics or country v country issues. I dont understand myself the whole situation and I know I'm not alone in that. BTW. This is an open invitation to anyone that has a simplistic explanation about it all.

I understand that. But on a base-level: death is death right? Why is there shock and prayers for one and not the other? A family at sea searching for a way out of their country of hell, drowning in horrific, drawn-out circumstances is just as awful as a man being shot isn’t it? Families and children being bombed is just as awful. All life is precious, all life is fleeting. We should condemn all murders and be equally outraged, no matter how far away it occurs. Several reasons. 1) Rolling 24 hour news and this is 'fresh' 2) He was close to Trump 3) There is so much death and suffering in Gaza and with 'small boats' that it would be impossible to report on all of it. 4) Point 3 above is incredibly depressing enough but then you add in that the world is utterly powerless to stop it because there is a madman in the white house who just wants his sky scraper on the beach and credit for solving the 'problem' you know those people have no chance. China and Russia don't care. The US is in bed with Israel. Europe is so desperate for US support that we don't dare go against the US. 5) There can actually be justice done here. The shooter can be caught and punished. There will be no justice in Gaza. Maybe an investigation in ten years when Trump is dead but that is not going to help. If posting about Gaza on the internet helped then I would happily do it. Some of us bury our heads in the sand not because we don't care but because it's so horrific and we know it's not going to change. Also, remember, for every 'why aren't you talking about Gaza?' post from certain people we could reply asking about Ukraine, the Uyghur people in China, the political prisoners in Russia, the North Korean people etc. It doesn't have to be treated like a competition. The world is filled with disgusting things and I don't know about you but it would drag me down into depression to focus on all of it. This shooting is sad. We've all seen a hundred images of people holding a loved one in Gaza when they have been killed. It's just overwhelming and those people have no help coming.

I agree. Which funnily enough brings me round to Texters original point that he’s able to ignore it somewhat. Or that he cares about other things. I’m sure if he saw a Gaza child dead in front of him, he (as a genuinely decent bloke and a family man by all accounts) would be horrified. As would I. As would you. All good people. I think frankly some people are better at being able to live their life despite the sadness going on elsewhere. I think the Palestine situation horrendous but also find myself trying not to click on stories about it now as it brings me nothing but sadness now. I’m not shocked by it, I don’t expect it to change any time soon. It’s not that we don’t care. And that’s not to say some stories don’t hit me in the gut and get me down. Because they absolutely do. The Manchester bombing of those kids at the Ariana grande concert had me sat watching the news for four days on a loop in my bedroom. Wasn’t in a good place at the time admittedly but just sat there fixated that there’s evil in the world out there targeting innocent kids. I vowed not to let myself get fixed on a news story on something I can’t affect ever again after that. It’s not a sh*t world. It’s precious. It’s just full of evil. My missus has a saying in response to that popular ‘YOLO’ mantra. Hers is ‘you only die once. But you get to live every day’. I like that. And if it makes me a bit selfish that I’d rather put my time into bettering the lives of people I can and those around me rather than dwell on the evil c**ts in power around the world and the people brining nothing but hatred, division and evil.

I upvoted it specifically for this line: 'Not that I need to explain how I came across it' in reference to the video on Twitter. Is there a reason you didn't copy the whole post and just highlighted that bit? You don't need to answer that, we both know there is. On that note, I am off to bed. Peace to all x
