Truly unbearable.
Parking the question of who is right or wrong, it is a perfect microcosm of the way that we have all been divided into tribes by the people with hands on the levers of power in recent years. Brexit is the most obvious example here, but there are loads more, and it's very evidently a deliberate ploy to divide populations into things they disagree about rather than unite on the things they agree on. The USA over the last decade is obviously another good example.
I try my hardest not to get sucked in, but it's becoming increasingly hard to just ignore stuff that I find almost upsetting at times.
Think im going to go football only on here for a bit. Which is a shame, as I do value seeing different views to challenge my world view.
Appreciate that this is a bit of a look at me post, but wanted to be able to vent a bit.

The follow up from yesterdays training game on here evidences for me that it actually goes beyond the 'General' section to be honest.
It's always been a bit fractious in regard to that I suppose, but post promotion it seems to have given way to totally over the top negativity toward individual players and to staff. Jacob Greaves, Jack Clarke, Jaden Philogene, Mark Ashton, Luke Werhun and even Kieran McKenna. I can normally ignore most of these things but the levels of negativity on this board currently on all subjects is honestly really having an impact on me, to the level I've had to start popping people on the ignore list until I'm in a better place to cope with the vitriol, and from some posters it really is deliberate vitriol.
Its not just these things though, its also the reactions to other posters from many individuals some of which seem to delight in being controversial, deliberately bait or seem intent on making other posters seem somehow thick or stupid. There is one post currently running where another poster has been told to 'fck off' and been implied that the other poster is 'stupid'.
Dubbers microcosm of the way we've been divided by the politics of the day extends here I guess.
I blame social media, but Dubbers is right, it is awful on here at the moment, and far from enjoyable. |  |

There is nothing wrong with criticism, debate and disagreement. There are plenty of times I’ve disagreed with people including yourself and that’s as it should be. It’s a boring old world if we see things 100% the same way. However, there are ways of engaging including having respect for other people and actually reading their views and sometimes changing one’s own.
That is not the case with some. The default setting for them is negative and abusive. Why? The oft repeated and very simple ‘rule’ write as if you were speaking face to face holds true.

This is a great observation Chelters and reflects my thoughts too.
I try to engage respectfully as much as I can but there are some threads that are so ridiculous (such as this morning's nonsense) where it's becoming impossible. There is no scope for any debate. People just post inflamatory BS for no other reason than to get a reaction.
I've never put any poster here on ignore as it somehow feels that those posters could then post with impunity without being challenged, but like you, I'm just not enjoying this place very much these days. Last season just f@ucked this place up and if anything it's actually worse this season. It astonishes me that these people are grown adults, yet their discourse is akin to primary school students.
What is even more disheartening is that posters I admire here are then being drawn into tittle tattle battles that should be beneath them.
Does the ignore button make a big difference? How does it impact on the readability of threads etc? I'm seriously considering using it now. |  |

I posted something along the same lines a few weeks ago and aside from a lot of people quietly up voting, I was told by the usual suspects that I was wrong and it was fine.
The permanent and unwavering negativity from a few regulars is utterly depressing. Its fine to have different options, but mix it up please.
Also the sniping and accusations that come from a certain bunch if you dare to have an opinion that differs from them can be quite vile.
I dont know why its so bad at the moment, maybe it mirrors the general mood of the country, but as Cheltenham says, its not a nice place in the slightest. |  | | |

Again, I understand your, Dubbers’ and others with similar feelings on this, but still think if you look at it from a long perspective (I’m talking from when this forum first started about 28(?) years ago), its overall trajectory has been one of slow, incremental, positive improvement over that time.
Of course it’s still not perfect, but although there are still some WUMs, trolls and negative nellies around, they’re actually pretty mild compared with a couple of handfuls of disproportionately prolific & disruptive total a-****s who’ve now apparently been permanently banned. The result is that there remains a much better balance now, with a higher proportion of decent people able to carry out peer-policing, as happened with one baiting post yesterday before it got deleted by Admin.
Don’t give up - look at the longer picture - and you, Dubbers, Who’sBlue + other good guys n gals are needed to keep up/increase the number of good posters, drown out the baddies :) [Post edited 21 Sep 11:05]
