Me personally I could never really be bothered to argue with a stranger on the internet over their beliefs. Mates, family, people close to me IRL I have debated with, but there is obviously people in the world who would disagree with me and I’m never going to convince everyone, what’s the point🤣

Totally agree. Trouble is, for those who are triggered by it, it draws the eye to the most controversial posts like moths to a flame - and can turn a 1v1 debate into ‘taking sides’, then people get upset, lash out and it escalates.
If we could all just be more rational, life would be very different.  | |

Spot on post and to be honest I’m surprised by the amount of hostility that crops up on here half the time.
It’s an Ipswich Town forum, very niche, and we all support the same club which is our common interest. But the amount of grudges I see from posters that seem to stem from the politics debates is mind blowing.
I prefer not to get involved in it other than to upvote the ones I really agree with and I’m glad I don’t bother. If someone wants to take on my football opinions and thinks they’re bollox then I’m glad, we all enjoy reasonable debate. But the stuff that goes on re politics, too far sometimes. |

It’s all just too serious I reckon.
Like realistically if you were in a pub with some mutual friends and they bump into someone they know and you are there drinking with them, but you know politically you’re going to clash, you’d avoid talking about politics after the first row.
So when you meet them again and again, why would you keep bringing politics up? There many on here that have vast difference and yet cannot stop themselves bringing Gaza/Palestine/Israel etc into every single subject purely because who they’re replying to is on the other side of the spectrum.

I think Phil is within his rights to shut the board down for 48 hours as a form of "punishment" for want for a better word. |
I mean it’s the same 5-10 posters every single time who all refuse to put each other on ignore, presumably because acting like a child on the internet is some kind of hobby for them. Personally I enjoy watching the drama from afar so it doesn’t bother me but from a site management viewpoint get rid of the 1% and 99% of the aggro goes too without Phil having to shut down his hobnob earning machine. |  | | |
