Full 90 minutes to be replayed - Nixon 14:37 - Sep 25 with 4631 views | SitfcB | Alan Nixon ••• 凸 Share Blackburn Rovers will be ordered to play Ipswich Town again over a full 90 minutes by the EFL. Rovers wanted the 1-0 scoreline to stand after the match was abandoned in 80 minutes - with the Tractor Boys down to ten men. But this was turned down. And their appeal to only replay the final stages with that advantage has also been tossed out by the EFL board. The eight-person committee, featuring three Championship clubs, decided there was no precedent for playing out the final stages that way. Blackburn are unhappy with the result and now have to start again and find a date in their diary. It is a huge relief to Ipswich who lobbied for the full replay after pushing for the game to be called off on Saturday. [Post edited 25 Sep 14:38]

Because the board had a range of options open to them, as shown by the fact the decision wasn't unanimous.

Don’t understand why Nixon is so shocked at that either. A clear conflict of interests.

Full 90 minutes to be replayed - Nixon on 16:14 - Sep 25 with 590 views | HighgateBlue | The board are to be congratulated for arranging a board meeting within a week and reaching a decision before the next fixture is even played. Anyone who sits on boards, or even just has to coordinate a number of professionals' diaries knows that this is a good effort (and not some appalling farce or conspiracy as some suggest, who seem to think that this is like a VAR or DRS decision). Equally, the three Championship directors who abstained are to be congratulated. Their clubs have an interest in the outcome, albeit a potentially small one in the case of all but Norwich). They showed common sense and integrity in abstaining. In my view the board has reached the most sensible decision. If we were in Blackburn's shoes, we'd be very cross, and I can guarantee that many on here would be adopting the opposite viewpoint with equal vehemence. I do have some sympathy. But this is a lifeline, and we must make it count, by (a) trying to keep all of our players on the pitch, whether it be a fine dry day or cats and dogs, and (b) putting in a better performance than last time. We conceded a goal that in effect will not count. We had a red card that will not stand for the replay (albeit I appreciate that Greaves' record will have it on it, and he has a suspension). In those two respects we are lucky, whether or not Blackburn should have better drainage than they have.

Every PL football game I see cheating at the highest level. Trying to get penalties, free-kicks,etc. Trying to get players sent off. Wasting time. All the bloody time and ruining the game. Fed up to the back teeth of it. So why doesn't Nicko mention this. We didn't flood the pitch or make the decision...... we just did what any other club would do. If you want to stamp out cheating and uphold integrity, Nicko..... plenty there to start with before us.

That is from Nixon. Wow, he actually seems backward now. |
If Alan Nixon has any integrity he should close his X account and ponder an alternative career.

Of course Blackburn would probably have won, but even if they were showering our goal with shots and us camped in, the game would only have been one fluke breakaway from being drawn. On that basis you can't award the result with certainty it's the right outcome.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I would be saying a full replay is correct whether it benefitted us or went against us.
