Chance creation though is low despite high possession and attacking threat. WBA well organised and not a side you want to go one down to.

Draws between other teams are always handy, taking points off both teams, so yes, this isn't a terrible result for us. [Post edited 26 Sep 22:07]

Blackburn would be planning an appeal as a match is 90 minutes, so a 93rd minute goal couldn't possibly count

I thought both teams seemed to show more energy and played at a faster pace than we do Having said that the final pass was lacking, not quite clicking. Sound familiar?

Was it Sheffield United and the two Darrens (Bent and Ambrose) after Pablo got sent off or something like that from 0-2 down? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/2715885.stm

Were they on grass though? Much more difficult on a marsh.

I was at that game. Astonishing. The sending off was in 20th minute too, so most of the game was with 10 men. But of course, according to the swamp-dwellers of Blackburn it could never happen. Thanks to their negligence and penny pinching, the pitch was so bad perhaps it couldn’t. Moral of the Blackburn tale is get those conditions exactly the way you want them. Accidently leave the hoses running and totally by act of god break the tap. Maybe release piranha from the boardroom fish tank accidentally down the opposition end. How about changing the rules to first goal wins it. No need for set times, no whining about replayed games. Accept it and move on. Oh, I know - make the game last 90 mins plus added time. If for any reason 90 mins cannot be played through no fault of the clubs, replay it. Simple really.

I was there too. I remember feeling a sense of injustice at Pablo's sending off - was he wound up and reacted as he had a bit of a short fuse? I also recall a feeling that it was the youthful naivety of the Darrens that helped us to achieve it. I always think Dean Bowditch was involved but notice that he wasn't. As for the Blackburn game, I very much doubt we would have got anything from it so we got lucky with the abandonment. However, it is clearly the correct rule that it is replayed and the conditions had been unplayable for a considerable time before and will have contributed to the score and ten men when it was abandoned.

But there's never a chance of winning from two down with ten men, oh... It's amazing what can be done on a good pitch innit. Oh!

Indeed. There was no chance of equalising on a marsh where the ball wouldn't bounce nor roll even a foot. To make it fair, the only passes allowed in the replay should be aerial and whenever the ball bounces the referee should award a free kick to the opposition where the ball landed. Oh, and we should choose to field 10 men and deliberately concede a goal. That sounds fair, doesn't it?

Except I guess that the hopeless ref finally saw the light, or not as the case was. As you say, it should have been abandoned earlier. Arguably before the red card and penalty. All ifs and buts innit? Bottom line is the game wasn't completed so it's replayed. Simple as that. What Winter and that lawyer in another link and other neutrals are banging on about is beyond me and frankly embarrassing.

….and the pitch remained playable right to the end. I bet WBA are cursing the day they invested in decent drainage.
