Not sure i understand the love-in 08:21 - Sep 28 with 1011 viewsblueM3

Firstly I was somewhat surprised that the sponsors man of the match was announced as Kipre.

Then I was also more surprised at the radio Suffolk phone in being people gushing over him…

Don’t get me wrong he was decent, but did he stand out? He really wasn’t overly challenged. I also thought that O’Shea was head and shoulders above him today. One second half recovery run behind kipre leading to a sliding block of a shot really stood out. Along with seeing him drive the ball forward more than usual. Incidentally leading to the through ball for azon hitting the post.

Now this is in now way a dig or moan about Kipre. But I do wonder if it’s the anti-Greaves brigade starting a new bandwagon rolling? For a first start in a long while thought Kipres speed of decision making on the pass was quite slow and he looked a little awkward at times with the ball at his feet. Granted he did nothing wrong with his distribution, but he also wasn’t pressed hard and fast.

As said it’s not a moan, he did well enough. But I just got the feeling it was praise to beat Jacob greaves with more than having seen a prime paolo maldini masterclass on show.

All opinions though innit 👍🏾

Thought he had a good game but I was a little surprised he was given man of the match. It was a good all round performance but for me Matusiwa was immense in the midfield and I'd have had him as man of the match. Thought Cajuste stood out more than Kipre as well, while the likes of O'Shea and Davis were also at least as good as Kipre.

I thought he was solid, but unspectacular. He did deal with Bishop very well, as did O'Shea, but agree that he looked not entirely comfortable in possession, albeit he settled more as the game went on.

Solid 7/10 performance for me, but not MoM.

I didn't know he was MOTM until you said it just now. A bizarre decision. He started off a bit shaky, but then was fine. But as others have said, several players were more deserving of MOTM.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Might just be that the sponsors wanted to have Kipre in their sponsorship photos, as that always used to be what happened if you sponsor the Man of the Match.

Annoying, in a way, because the sponsor could basically pick anyone they like, even if they've had a trashy game. But, money talks, right?

Kipre is known for mess ups and lapses of concentration, still unsure if he lost his man for the corner etc

However. We barely saw anything of Bishop yesterday and that was mainly because kipre kept him at bay the whole game.

I think the best way to see kipre with the ball is perhaps another version of wolfy. Hes slow with the ball to bring on the press. Imo

Definitely an improvement on Greaves then.

He was ok... Probably a better match up against Bishop physically than perhaps Greaves might of been?
Thought Kipre lost his man for their goal. Had that been Greaves, then he'd of got slaughtered by a certain section of the fan base.
I don't want to be too nit picky. As, overall, most of them out there did well. And we got the 3pts.
But I think Greaves and Hirst get some unwarranted stick, sometimes.
Hope this thread doesn't descend into a list of negative examples from either player.
We are on the up. And if anyone is looking for perfection at Championship level, they are pissing in the wind.

From what I've seen and spoke to people about him, they're very similar in that you'll prob get a good defensive game from him but he will have his moments.

It will be interesting to see how KM sees this one.

Really it's kipres shirt to lose imo but I still wouldn't be surprised to see greaves back in on Tuesday.

Trying to focus more on the positives of them I think we might seem some 'horses for courses' selections between the pair.

For slower/stronger CFs then Kipre looks to be a really solid CB. Bishop and other Pompey players were bouncing off him yesterday.

For games where we might need to break a low block then Greaves offers a lot going forward. Getting an extra man in the final 3rd can often cause the chaos needed to mess with a low block.

Someone who has been a match sponsor told me whilst it’s their decision they more or less told something along the lines of, “We think you should pick X.”

I was thinking exactly the same. I thought Kipre was good but certainly looked like he lost his man for their goal or perhaps just switched off for a moment.

Greaves struggled last season but has been playing well and really doesn’t deserve a lot of the stick he gets. We’re lucky to have 3 good centre backs but Kipre would still be my third choice.
