There is another possible date mid week the week before Christmas.
The October date is half term, suspect they want as few Town fans there as possible so my money would be on a December date.
They want to give themselves as much advantage as possible so picking a date when fewer Town fsns will attend makes sense. |  |

There is another possible date mid week the week before Christmas.

They want to give themselves as much advantage as possible so picking a date when fewer Town fsns will attend makes sense. |
The December date is an option but it's going in to a period that already has a really high number of games.
I think whatever mid-week date they pick the number of away fans will probably be fairly consistent - it will mainly be the hard core group who go to every game who make it. A December game might actually see a few more younger fans if Uni/College etc has broken up by that point.
The clubs have to agree with the league as well I think don't they? So if we wanted to avoid adding to a congested December period would could make a case with the league about that | |

Think it is left to the clubs to set a date with the league stepping in if they can’t.

Agreed. It is weird in that it’s done now. A reversal of the decision would be ludicrous - and in any case, the correct decision was made.
I don’t see any particular necessity to play the fixture this side of Christmas. There tends to be less fixtures the other side of Christmas, especially given the likelihood of both clubs exiting the FA Cup early. |  | | |

It would be unwise to if EFL to allow the match to be put back to next year, there is the possibility of a cup replay for either team in January.
There are Championship fixtures scheduled for the date of 4th round. Even if both Ipswich & Blackburn lose in round 3 there is a chance our scheduled opponents for 14th February are still in the cup. | |
