Sunday's match 10:19 - Oct 7 with 864 viewsthebooks

It was fun. Crowd was good, even when we weren't playing well. Celebrations for the 3rd goal were wild in the NS lower.

Helped by fairly poor opposition, who did get one thing right in pressing our defence and making us shift the ball out to Furlong on the touchline virtually every single time we got the ball at the back. Teams are doing this regularly.

This was reminding me of the ball out to Donacien in the Lambert era. It's the one area we're still struggling with, and where I'd say our player upgrades haven't resulted in an upgrade in our play.

The combination of Hladky, Woolfenden and Tuanzebe/Clark could get forward better than O'Shea, Palmer and Furlong (and I don't think Palmer is an upgrade on Hladky, and obviously Furlong isn't as good a player as Tuanzebe).

Big Cedric was good on the ball. I don't think he was a problem at all, but our set up also means the ball will end up with O'Shea rather than the left-sided central defender.

Seems Ben Johnson has been forgotten, but you would have expected him to be a better fit going forward, although appreciate we need a solid defender there if Leif Davis basically plays as an attacker.

Maybe there's a tactical approach to fix this.

Still, Norwich tired and ran out of ideas, and I felt we were very comfortable in the second half. Manning seems to be one of those managers who likes a slow passing game, like Russell Martin.

And my god, we are swimming in midfield and attacking riches. I feel we can play at this 60% level and still get in the play-offs. If and when we do click, we will overhaul your Coventries in quick time.

Sorry that we weren't peak Brazil '70 enough for you on Sunday but I've just checked the score and we won 3-1.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

I think the fact that Furlong is solid suits us better right now whilst we are finding our feet again at this level. With our current players I actually think we look better when we go direct - it was screaming out for us to just bypass the Norwich press for a lot of the game on Sunday and we have such quality in forward areas that it makes sense to get it to them quicker.

On Johnson, quite telling that he's not even making matchday squads now.

I think the number 10 position is something that needs looking at. We haven’t got anyone who will come to the ball and link play, I think that would help us get out from the back as ours currently look to get up with Hirst and play off him.

Still not convinced we have the right balance in the team as of yet.

I think Ashley Young in at right back might help us with this.

Having seen Johnson play for us over the last year, I'm surprised anyone is surprised he isn't playing.

Furlong is fine for me. He's a solid and dependable rb, which is what we need in our system with Leif regularly bombing forward.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Johnson has been forgotten but if that's the case what's happened to Harry Clarke. If you want your right back to step inside and make inroads forward, he could well be our man. But, like Johnson (who does have his own qualities) he's unlikely to be as solid as Furlong.

The one I'm the least bothered about seeing often is Young.

Just when you thought it was safe to go out, Budgies are now chanting about it's19 years since we won at Carrow Road.

The question I was asking myself during the game was "why are we always ending up with the ball on the right with Furlong?" (when DO'S actually found him!). Was it because Norwich pushed our play that side, or that we wanted to drag the play that side. Similarly why was Walle Egeli stuck to that touchline whereas Jaden seemed to have much more licence to roam?

I have heard that some thought that Norwich forced us that side, but is that right? Were they good enough to push the play into that dark alley. Or was it that this is what we wanted to do, that we are not yet practiced enough to do it well, but is is all part of a grand plan. Clearly Town in 5 doesnt show us the tactical plan and how well it was executed, but I have a hunch that the latter is true and in time, when we get better at it, we will see why.

I hope so.

I agree - why did we always end up with the ball going to Furlong?

Personally, I thought that Furlong had a good game and don't think he was the issue in this respect. I also note that Kipre is right footed and wonder whether we would have found it easier to work the ball out on the left hand side with Greaves at LCB.
