Ricoh Arena 12:26 - Oct 7 with 2535 views | Zx1988 | At a conference today over at Coventry's gaff. Certainly something to aspire to with the new stand (although it might require building out over Portman Road and into the car park). A fantastic venue with large conference halls, on-site eateries, and very sleek and modern. Would certainly fit the bill for year-round usage.

Also no real fanzone. We are very lucky in that respect. Not been the Ricoh for a long time. [Post edited 7 Oct 13:37]

Makes me realise how lucky we are to have the fanzone and the bars of the town centre and docks so close - plus the train station.

There are a couple of breweries/pubs within walking distance, but I'm not a fan of out of town grounds, although this one being so close to the M6 means it's quick to get away from.

The anti gambling g rhetoric on his is seriously boring. Gambling is absolutely no problem if you’re of sound mind. If you let it get the better of you, then it’s a you problem. No one else’s. If a casino for example made the club money and a money financially viable business then there is no problem. The only people that have a problem are those with a weak mind who have been convinced by the woke regime that a gambling addiction is a mental health problem. 🥱

You might have the beginning of a point if there were no innocent victims of other people's gambling. Are you saying " Gambling isn't a problem, you just have to be born to parents who aren't of unsound mind, then you won't go to school hungry/get woken up by bailiffs banging on your door/be evicted from your home again." https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/children-yougov-nhs Or in the case of adult partners of gambling addicts: https://www.gamcare.org.uk/news-and-blog/blog/what-women-have-told-us-about-gamb It's not woke to want our Football Club to be part of building a better community, and not to be profiting from the misery associated with problem gambling. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I'd argue that it is woke to want our football club to be part of building a better community. Instead, I'd argue against "being woke" being a bad thing

I don't think the Cobbolds would be seen as woke. But they definitely wanted the Club to be at the heart of the community, and a positive influence for that community.

Ah you’ve ticked all the boxes there. Mental health, weak, woke. I sincerely hope if someone in your family struggles with a gambling addiction, that you stay the hell away from them for their own sake. [Post edited 7 Oct 17:16]

How long has a simple sentence like that been described as ‘anti-gambling rhetoric’? This is important as I want to ensure you don’t trigger so easily in the future. Bless [Post edited 7 Oct 17:26]

Gambling companies are absolute pond life. I adore Ipswich Town Football Club, and can't imagine switching clubs, but I was truly genuinely ashamed of the club when we had that horrible Magical Vegas sponsor.

You are aware of how addictions work I assume? Gambling is no different to other additions and is about a brain imbalance. It's an illness. I'll leave it there as your comment is cluleness and ignorant

Also they completely contradict themselves. They say it’s not a problem if you have a “sound mind”, but then went on to say it’s always incorrectly blamed on “mental illness”. The entire post is the ramblings of a maniac. [Post edited 7 Oct 21:12]

Indeed. As someone who has suffered in the past, as have many family members, ignorant posts like that really infuriate me. No. one chooses to have an additction, whatever it is and the arrogance of some is really frustrating. I thought we lived in a more acceptable environment these days [Post edited 8 Oct 8:44]

Absolutely. I’m sorry for your struggles. Addictions comes in many forms, and it never starts because someone is ‘weak’. People can be seen to not help themselves when in the throes of it, and they aren’t always blameless for their actions, but they are victims, and unwell, and deserve kindness afforded to them. Well said and thank you - most people are tolerant, just the ignorant few, like the poster who I hope never struggle themselves or know anyone who does. Drugs, gambling, alcohol, sex and others - they are all additions and the poster would be well versed to understand how addition works

Prove your working. I would recommend the Paul Merson documentary on this and the research center he visits where they have been able to prove/demonstrate the difference in the brain for those prone to addiction and were able to visually demonstrate it in connection to gambling and the electrical signals in the brain. You can research that further if you wished but it was an eye opener and a really powerful documentary on the destruction individually and even worse to the families. There were some absolutely horrific elements on how gambling companies went after addicted indivials using algorithms and messaging to keep them coming back ultimately leading to suicides etc I'm not personally against casinos/gambling existing but it's absolutely shocking what is allowed to go on and there needs to be so much more legislation and restrictions on how they operate.
