From what I'm reading "some people" will be getting finger printed and photos taken on entry to Europe, but not all.
Anyone know more? Why is it some and not all? And ideas on the proportion likely to be getting stopped?

It's meant to be for all non-EU from Sunday 12th.
Application, like most border related things will potentially vary by country and sometimes the person you are seen by. I'd insist it is done though, as could impact how you travel afterwards.

With a 6 month roll out so not all countries & or entry exits at the same time, also with the ability to turn the system off if queues get to big, check the Eurostar EES terminals & some of the questions being asked if you use that route.
As has been mentioned, once you are in the system it will be much quicker “ potentially “, living in the EU I’m already finger printed & have a biometric id I’m obliged to carry so it won’t effect me as much.

Wait, is it not the EU dragging it's heels? ETIAS was supposed to be rolled out in 2024 for visitors to the EU, I thought.
The UK has already has ETA in place and if approved, those countries citizens can quickly use E-gates at the UK Border. [Post edited 8 Oct 15:44]
