Caught a bit of Talksport morning shows over the past couple of weeks. 08:53 - Oct 9 with 7912 viewsFromReuserWithLove

Managed to hear Alan Brazil praising Trump, deriding 5Live for criticising Trump and then the other day dismissing Neville for questioning the motives of people tying flags to high street lampposts.

What an obnoxious moron he is.

For me, it is disappointing that a Scotsman of Irish heritage should take this view, given the Scots and Irish have emigrated in vast numbers over the centuries.

Indeed, I have loads of cousins but the majority live outside the UK. And I was born many thousands of miles from the UK, although my parents never settled there and came back, but not to Scotland.

Not like you to twist the context.

The vast majority of those arrests are older people sitting down holding signs, to equate those arrests to arrests for violence is clearly disingenuous.

The vast majority of protestors are peaceful and don't engage in the actions you've highlighted.

There has been a clear shift from a few on here to distort that and form another narrative though along with attempts to demonise "The Left".

is there any proof/stats to back this up? as I simply don't believe this statement without something to back it up

Lineker reposted a post on social media about Zionism which featured an illustration of a rat - an animal that has historic antisemitic sentiments.

It sparked a lot of understandable criticism but GL was adamant that he had missed the rat emoji that featured on the clip. He said - along the lines of- that he would never consciously repost anything antisemitic.

Regardless of his intentions or ignorance he agreed to resigned.

So it was Gary Lineker then....

What are you struggling with here exactly?

He shared the post, which does refer/have an image of a rat (aiming it at jews)

And resigned because of it, not sure you're on to a winner here

Everyone can see your post stating that he 'referred to jews as rats'. He didn't.

Edit: I'll leave it there, for Phil's sake.

He reposted a video that showed an image which has historical references to antisemitism. If a well known celebrity had posted a video that criticised a particular African country that used anti-black emojis then that particular celebrity would have to go. No difference.

People, especially celebrities, have a responsibility to check what and who they post. Ignorance is not an excuse and he did the honourable thing and resigned.

Welcome to the forum.

Virtually all the arrests at these protests have been people holding up signs, it's been clearly reported as so across all media outlets so if you don't believe that you're seeing what you want to see.

I don't have time to do a deep analysis and reference operation on this for you right now but for the September protests the numbers seem to be:

857 people arrested for supporting palestine action whilst 17 arrests for violence". There were also 33 arrests for other non-violent offences [1].

So that would be 94% of the arrests were for holding up signs or as I said, the vast majority.

I did hear (and it could well be total rubbish) that in some parts of the country, the English and Union flag have been left up but people have added other flags of their ancestors fly along with it. For example the Jamaican flag flies alongside it.

Can’t like that.

Are you saying assaults on police dont happen at these marches? I didnt quote any numbers, I just mentioned assaults. Nor did I try to make out all the arrests are for violence!

But I'm the one who twists things right?

You're being disingenuous again because the implication was clear to myself and others given your last sentence about the "peaceful left".

In fact the vast majority of people arrested are peacefully protesting as I've highlighted with evidence so the attempt at demonisation was clear.

just stop peddling the left v right rhetoric. This is the division the NF and Trump are creating. I try to be a decent human being and centrist actually.

Didn't you do exactly this during the derby game by accusing people who threw lighters and bottles on the pitch as being "reform voters"?

So your original 'gotcha' point about Lineker to counter attacks that he was a vaguely decent human being, was that he posted a link without fully reading and understanding it, before unreservedly apologising and stepping down from his job?

That still sounds like a vaguely decent human being who made a mistake and massively owned it.
