Anyone doubting him should be embarrassed. He never panicked. Knew what we needed to do. The success of Jaden etc should also give those desperate to slag off Macateer at the first opportunity food for thought. See also Hirst, a brilliant servant for us who KM has stuck with for a reason.

Reading KM's gracious comments on receiving manager of the month on 09:40 - Oct 10 by bluearmy4838 | Agreed, although to be fair it didn't take McKenna winning September MOTM to conclude those getting on his back are / were absolute weapons. |
Oh absolutely. Agree. Don't forget Jan/Feb in winter 23 and 24.

Reading KM's gracious comments on receiving manager of the month on 10:40 - Oct 10 by bluearmy4838 | Also if it is goals you're looking for he's scored in 2 of his last 3 starts, and I thought we missed his presence against Bristol City tbh. On another day that could've been 3 in 3, he did a lot right against Norwich. Stepped up for the pressure penalty against Brum as well, created the OG against Southampton and for me was one of, if not the MOTM (but gets a 5.9 in the ratings on here). Denied a stone wall pen against Derby that he probably would've taken as Clarke wasn't on yet, if that goes in and we go 2-1 up rather than 2-1 down its a different game. Scored against Sheff United and got what proved to be the winner against Pompey. Was poor at Preston, but was in good company there. On the whole I think he's started the season pretty well, both in terms of goals but as you say his game is about a lot more than that. We would miss him hugely if he gets injured, I think only then people might start to appreciate what he brings us. |
Spot on. | | | |

Reading KM's gracious comments on receiving manager of the month on 08:42 - Oct 10 by IH_KGF | I'm a very positive fan, but his first touch has been nothing short of terrible so far this season, decision making at times has been miles off too. There is a player in there as we've seen, but i do believe he'll be the next to be upgraded |
That's how I see it tbh. Don't think personally he's led the line as well as previously seasons but he's definitely our starting striker in my eyes and hopefully his hold up play will come back. Moaning about players is one thing but I'd never condone one of our own being booed

Reading KM's gracious comments on receiving manager of the month on 00:24 - Oct 11 with 443 views | darkhorse28 | Jeezo - 44 abject games, 200 million spent, and sold our entire legacy squad and had had to build TWO squads at an eye watering cost. And where are we? About where Mick was with £3.75 to his name, and we DID lose at Blackburn too.., we all need to support him, and hopefully the MOTM gives the off the field group more belief and confidence. The revisionism from you though is genuinely petrifying. We didn’t have a league one side in the prem, we spent the same as Forest and more than any club in Europe, giving McKenna a champions league contract. We win a game against a really poor side, and you think he’s world class AGAIN You just don’t learn, it beggars belief, as if one game means everything, and 44 mean nothing at all, if they don’t suit your narrative…, make you feel bad. Let’s see where we go. We have three times the resources of any club in this division, so we should be top two or close to that, and that’s to do ok, not elite, not world class, what any good EFL manager should achieve if he’s spent £200 million building a team!!! The thing hat you should maybe spend time on, rather than trying to massage your ego, and validate decisions you made at the final whistle hustle against Huddersfield, that aged like a stale cheese …, worst season in the cliffs history type of stale cheese.., is why McKenna had to lose so many players that often went to lower clubs, and why not a single person had a kind word to say about him…, not one kind word in the exits of Mass, Sam, Wolf, Burgess, Broady…, etc etc etc They know better than me. And better than you. And they all voted with their feet.., he stank it out at elite level, and maybe this is his level, time will tell. But Sunderland Leeds, Burnley have achieved more, with less resources, in SIX games, than he did in a season. If I was being cruel, I’d point out Farke is clearly more elite than McKenna. As a measure. Let that sink in. Sick and tired of people like you thinking YOUR EGO is bigger than our club. It ISN’T - I couldn’t care less if you put your self esteem in McKenna and what it says about you. He’s lucky to be here.., woeful start, and still is a poor start, and woeful 14 months .., Sunderland are pushing for Europe - Forest almost made champions league. He’s clearly a very good coach. He’s also clearly miles away from an elite manager, nobodies opinion, just what 38 elite games SHOUTED loud and clear. West Ham playing us off the park last game, summed up how far McKenna is from that level - it’s night and day. And managers earning 10% his salary HAVE made the leap. That’s not elite…, it’s woeful. So wake up. Not everyone is happy like you are to keep us in the EFL so you can happy clap 4 points against Portsmouth et al. Were bet tee t than that.., and your EGO holds us back, you’re allowed to be wrong about McKenna .., we weren’t patient, we made him one of the best paid managers in Europe, and gave him £200 milllion to invest. Rightly, hat comes with higher expectations than squeezing the odd three points in the EFL. Glad you don’t run our club…, we wouldn’t exist!

Reading KM's gracious comments on receiving manager of the month on 07:48 - Oct 10 by tonybied | Indeed the Hirst comment is just plain weird. The poster clearly can't understand the difference between form and class. Last season people were suggesting we would be a better team with Hirst in the line-up rather than Delap. He has had an average start to the season...and when I say average, I mean his finishing hasn't been of the expected level, he's been getting in all the right positions, and has a better than 1-in-3 record , so far! That's if you just count his goals. Most understand that Hirst brings much more than just that to the team. If he starts hitting goal scoring form, then the league is in trouble. |
Hirst is a terrific player. He brings others into the game with good awareness of where he is on the pitch and who is around him. He also gets into the positions you would expect from a CF - e.g. against Portsmouth with the little movement that lost the defender and led to a tap in. He made exactly the same move a minute later, but the ball didn’t come to him. He works hard and seems a great character. His only weakness is fitness issues. The comment re Delap is interesting. Delap was making his own chances with his size, strength and skill. He had to with no midfield. But at this stage of his career, I don’t think he has the ability to bring others into the game that Hirst has. That will of course change when he gets fit, gets more experience, especially with better players and a better team. Hirst suits the way we play. He’s not in the best of form at the moment but still contributing as good players do. He is and will be fine as he can stay free of injury.

Well, that’s one take on it. I took darkhorse28 off ignore just to see if there had been any improvement or reduction in trolling. Nope. If anything worse. Utter drivel, badly written with as much bile as could be summoned. Maybe the poster was drunk or a little grumpy sitting in his wet trolleys so I should be perhaps a little more charitable. A minute of my life I’ll never get back plus 10 seconds to get him back on ignore. [Post edited 11 Oct 9:46]

Reading KM's gracious comments on receiving manager of the month on 08:50 - Oct 10 by Swansea_Blue | Worked his socks off, given us lots of energy, made the right side pretty solid allowing the left side to get forward more. He’s been unspectacularly sound but it’s not all about him on that side, as has been discussed to death on here. Walle Egeli is the one who’s going to get bums off seats, McAteer looks more like someone KM can rely on to play the team game. |
thought he was excellent for parts of the 1st/2nd home game he played for us, especially for a new signing dropped into a system hes not familiar with, hes not had much chance to shine since

I think you're at cross purposes here. This is a thread about the Manager of the Month Award for September 2025. I suggest you limit your analysis to that time frame. Sadly, the glorious Norwich victory is irrelevant, as it came after September. It will count towards next month's award analysis. Everything you bang on about is similarly irrelevant, as it occurred before September. You're welcome.
