The chant: "McKenna, sort it out" 10:51 - Oct 23 with 4048 viewsBobbychase

Is next-level village idiot stuff. With any manager's name. What do you think - he didn't realise we were losing until he heard it? What is it supposed to achieve?

See also: Making Chuckle Brothers memes featuring O'Shea and Greaves and sharing them on Twitter, moaning at Hirst as soon as he steps on the pitch and being absolutely mute until we go behind, then finding your voice to boo.

As usual on Tuesday, when the attendance was announced the club thanked us for "our support". What support? Place was silent until we went behind. Our defence was honking, as was McAteer (again) but let's be honest, the crowd has been poor this season unless we were cuffing the Blades or beating Norwich.

We have some particularly stupid fans. Bloke behind me was moaning at Palmer for getting himself injured by running out too far, for example. Braindead.

Yep, lower Sir Bobby after the second went in, although it was a small group and a hero - in my eyes - shouted them down quite eloquently from the back row.

A friend of mine was also given some stick for clapping the players off, as that wasn't allowed apparently.

There's a lot of fans in the lower north who are getting long in the tooth and have been there for years but who no longer make any noise at all. Lower north should be where the noise comes from but I'd say less than half of the fans there actually get involved.

I said the same to someone on Tuesday. There are a lot of people in there who probably sang a fair bit in their 20s but are now in their 40s-50s and are largely silent.

Worst culprit of the "sort it out" mantra is sadly BBC employee and former Town announcer Mark Murphy, who posted those exact words on his Facebook page, generating some the sort of comment thread that would make an imbecile weep. My favourite was "Sir Alf will be turning in his grave". So now people are invoking the ghosts of former managers to make their points.

The board offered to resign when Sir Bobby was booed early in his tenure, let us not forget.

One particular classy specimen was shouting "F@cking pussy" at George Hirst as he made his way over at the end of the game.
That'll help his confidence no end.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Exactly, what is the point of all of this? We can't magically change these players at this point in the season but yes, lets try and destroy the confidence of both our captain and leading striker. That'll help improve results.

"Bring back Paul Hurst" was genuinely one thing I heard on Tuesday. If anyone knows who that was, please tell them to turn in their season ticket.

I cannot wait for George to have a run of goal scoring to shut up those idiots treating him like that. He's just become another easy scapegoat.

It's a disgrace the way some 'fans' can't wait to criticise him as soon as he's on.

No problem with frustration or moaning but this lot just enjoy slagging players off.

At Preston away I was behind someone who called the 'this new team' 'a bunch of c*"'ts'.

That’s absolute rubbish the board did no such thing. I was at the game that night when the crowd turned on Robson after a run of defeats and Man Utd with George Best in his pomp absolutely battering us. At the time Robson didn’t have the achievements that McKenna has and was sacked from his two previous management roles so he had no credit with the fans and had spent the previous two seasons just about avoiding relegation.
What the board did do is call Robson in and apologise for the crowd’s reaction and offer Robson a ten year contract, Robson who thought he was going to be sacked agreed on the provision that the board released money to strengthen the team, which they did and Robson went out and purchased Allan Hunter from Blackburn and that was the start of Robson turning things around and the rest is history as they say!
I’m sure given time and support McKenna can get the best from this team he has assembled but the impatience was there for all to see at Portman Road on Tuesday evening!

I'll ignore George Best in his pimp.

Glad you used the word impatience because that is what it is. And this manager has earned the right for us to be patient.

I remember the personal to-his-face abuse Morsy got when we drew 0-0 at Bristol Rovers in the League One promotion season. Something tells me the fans who confronted him that night are now muttering that if we had him in the team we wouldn't be misfiring at the moment.

But it was ever thus.

Absolutely. The same thing happened after Cambridge away that season with some giving dog's abuse to Wes. I got into an argument on here about it.

Overheard after the Cambridge game: 'Morsy is *"""" he's finished'.

You're right it was ever thus.. But it seems to be getting worse.

I think it's a combination of entitlement, social media and the way society is going.

And let's face it, we've got thousands of fans who have come back, some of which seem to feel aggrieved if it's not always fairytale land.

Supporting the team means just that. Moaning is normal but the rubbish we're getting now is ridiculous.

Culprits should be made to sit through Wednesday at home at end of Jewell.

Yep. This season is going to be a fight it seems, rather than a procession, and a lot of our fans don't have the stomach for it unless we're winning every week.

Every club has these.

Remember a Norwich supporting work colleague telling me that at the very height of their stay at the top of the Premier League in 92/93 when at one stage I think they were eight points clear, there were still people that could be heard in the Barclay saying "We ain't got a hope with this lot" as someone like Ian Culverhouse gave the ball away.

I'll wager there's been people calling Erling Haaland rubbish at the Etihad after he puts one over the bar.

It's normal I guess to feel a bit angry and frustrated after these games, but releasing it with this chant, boos and personal abuse of players is the worst reaction possible at this early stage of the season. Booing doesn't have a good track record of improving things at Ipswich, it just erodes some player's confidence and willingness to take a shot etc and creates a nervy tense atmosphere that runs into the next match. Nothing going on that a couple of wins on the trot won't silence. I'm hopeful that things will improve soon and with games coming thick and fast surely the least we owe McKenna and our team is home support through a tricky spell.

Seeing people turn on Mckenna is really tough to see, I still believe he will turn it around and we will be ok but lose on Saturday that would be a 0 point week and the pressure and criticism of him will really ramp up I fear. Just makes me sad.
