What's the point anymore? Have woken up this morning and the world just seems to have gone to hell in a handcart. Yes it didn't happen overnight, but it's literally everything right now.

Wars all over the world.

Politics in the UK more obsessed with whether Prince Andrew did or didn't get up to anything with Epstein 25 years ago instead of actually dealing with important current matters, like the economy, the NHS, public sector generally.

The rise of the batsht far right in the UK.

Town couldn't win a fkin raffle.

The weather is sht.

Literally the only good news that I've seen in weeks is that our friend, who has stage 4 cancer diagnosis anyway, found anew lump and fortunately that's turned out to be benign, but literally everything just feels so goddamn futile at the moment.

Head for the eye of the storm, face up to it being even more awful than you expected. Then come out the other side sober, reflective and capable of making decisions:

'For the Stoics, logic...was the part of philosophy which examined reason... To achieve a happy life—a life worth living—requires logical thought...Logic helps a person see what is the case, reason effectively about practical affairs, stand his or her ground amid confusion, differentiate the certain from the probable, and so forth...The Stoics believed that the practice of virtue is enough to achieve eudaimonia: a well-lived life. The Stoics identified the path to achieving it with a life spent practicing the four cardinal virtues in everyday life — prudence, fortitude, temperance, and justice — as well as living in accordance with nature.'

Great news for your friend.

You know what, in what's been a sea of shit news, hearing that she's dying, but has got longer than we thought, was a real celebration.

Again, I just wish I could feel better about it.

My advice, live a life and don't look at the news. Invariably life is good and the news is bad !!
Not always as it is good to keep in touch but occasionally. Oh and the weather is nice and sunny but breezy here in East Suffolk. So it ain't all bad.

This seems like a rather extreme reaction to the Caerphilly by-election result ;)

I see positives in the Caerphilly result.

Not that Labour lost, nor that Reform candidate came second.

I saw it a positive that turnout was higher than the previous election and the electorate turned to the candidate most likely to best Reform. Farage put a lot of effort into winning he was in the hall when the count started but nowhere to be seen when the result was announced presumably halfway down M4 with his tail between his legs.

The winner was historically an out and out loser having tried 13 times previously to win the seat either for Westminster or the Assembly.

Going to be very difficult to predict the next General Election, think LibDems and the Nationalist parties will do well.

2023 year of destiny

A friend of mine in now on her 4th remission.
She says that because she is now being monitored frequently they catch any problems early and the process is quicker and less arduous. Much more "livable with", her words.

Stop watching the news, live in your world - 95% of what is reported is overstated and sensationalized.

Life is actually pretty good if you choose to make it so.

If you’re happy paying for a nonce to live a life of luxury because he was born into a specific family then good luck to you.

Cue some utter moron posting GSTK and a load of flags.

Point of order: We, the taxpayer, don't pay anything to Andrew. He no longer gets money from the Sovreign Grant (which replaced the Civil List). His lease on Royal Lodge is a commercial arrangement based on what he's already paid out of his own pocket for renovations and continues to do so for maintenance.

All of Andrew's income is now provided by "donors" - of more or less dubious nature, it seems. He's probably going to run low on those, now he can no longer use his titles, with his reputation in the gutter and diminishing useful contacts. They aren't gifts from the goodness of people's hearts, after all.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Stop watching the news. If you can't change it and it doesn't impact you, all you are doing is getting upset.

Or at least, limit your intake. I try and just do Newsnight and C4 news (which is still probably too much)

And get into self care...whether that's walking, cycling, baking, listening to music.
..
And whilst the world has largely gone to.sh1t but tbh it's always been shit. Compared to the horrors of Ww1 and Ww2 I think we are in a much better place now.

Agreed - I don't watch the news at all. Prefer to watch comedy, go outside for walks in parks / coast, listen to music, cooking, and have the occasional Barclays.

It must have been mixed emotions though, that celebration, and it is easier said than done - to make the remaining days the most valuable ones. Nevertheless you should also congratulate yourselves on being able to celebrate the extra time you have and do your best to develop a mindset that brings no unnecessary misery into your lives whilst not getting carried away with the temporary joy.

Reading that back it sounds terribly preachy but hopefully you know what I mean and can see the intention behind it.

Appreciate the small things in life for because things can change in an instant.

My bowels ruptured at Christmas without any real warning and I had to have life-saving surgery. I missed several home games including our win against Chelsea. Recovery has been a tough journey, but what can you do other than appreciate what you do have.

I got back to attending games to see us battered at home to Spurs but it was a joy.

I have another operation on Monday to hopefully reverse my stoma.

I was hoping for 2 wins this week to see me off, but then Charlton happened. Now, I'd like just us to win tomorrow, but if we don't we don't, because ultimately, if wake up to see Tuesday I'll be winning.

Fingers crossed for you on Monday, Cheshire.

Can you get the theatre team to play this a few times when it comes to bringing you round from the anaesthetic?

I hate glib platitudes like that. People who are homeless or chronically ill through no fault of their own, eg, don’t have a choice.
