Philogene and Jack Clarke 21:33 - Oct 25 with 1369 viewsIpswich24

Why can't they both be in the side?
Philogene would be great in the 10.
Always seems be like for like changes.

Because both simply like to start on the left and tuck in.

It's a shame neither like the right it really is.

Then egeli could be developed as a striker

If we go up, my hot take is the run of form will start when Kieran gets the 2 of them to perform in the same side. That'll be what does it.

Neither are their best on the right, but it doesn't mean they can't be our best on the right.

Philogene needs to be great or even good in his actual position before we start shoehorning him into a different position.

The guy is a show pony. Nutmegs defenders for fun but then falls over trying to win a penalty. He spends a lot of time on the floor in general.

I know it's incredible considering his goal record this season and the quality of some of his goals, but I'm not really having him. Clarke at times is everything he's not, effort, forward thrust, poaching goals, running.

Agree 100%

I don’t rate Philogene at all. Has a rocket of a shot, nothing else. Too slow and weak.

He’s been a 4/5 out of 10 every game.

Clarke has so many more strings to his bow. We can build a team around Clarke.

Clarkes had over a year of development now.

Let's see where philogene is after that point too.

You only have to look at clarkes interview to see how he's been developed.

Jaden hits a shot better than anyone at the club by a healthy margin imo. I tend to watch the pre-game drills and the gap's noticeable. He sent across a couple of good crosses in the first half today too and has worked well with Leif in previous games, before we turn to his several solo efforts - surprised he's been criticised so heavily in this thread.

I get that they both play their best football from the left, but can’t they rotate in game? Philogene starts on the left and does half an hour or so, then they switch, but both still being on the pitch. They’re both adequate right siders, it’s just a preference thing.

Plus we need to forget about having 10 and just play three central midfielders.

Totally disagree with this, we need less mercurial flashy players in the team and more solid dependable players.

You sprinkle seasoning on the meat and bones not the other way round.

We only need one of them in the team and another midfielder.

Yesterday he could have ended up with a brace, 2 assists (created good opportunities for both Szmodics and Walle Egeli) and a penalty.

His off the ball movement also creates lots of space and chances for others - Nunez gets a good chance just after coming on because Philogene pulls his man wide.

His out of possession work rate is also really good.

Sure there are areas of his game that he can improve on - as can Clarke.

I’ve been thinking since our promotion season 3 in midfield especially away from home would make it more difficult for teams to play through us and depending who the midfielders are they can always push foreword.

Cajuste or Taylor could play in a more advanced role at times. I must admit I’d rather see Nunez play a bit deeper as think his passing could help unlock the low block. Taylor had his best game in a Town shirt for me yesterday and I’ve never thought he really suits playing in a midfield 2.

Also Cajuste certainly put himself about a bit more I think he’s a good play but needs to dominate games more often. Perhaps being allowed to roam further up the pitch would also help his game?

Both players look better on the left.....

We haven't got a Leif Davis on the right...

Just saying.

This is quite the take and one that I would say is narrative driven rather than referencing any playing evidence.

Philogene puts himself about and works had in defence, to say he is slow and weak doesn't seem to be supported by evidence. He's quick going forward when he needs to be and whilst he cuts inside a lot so does Clarke, they are both playing on the left as right-footed wingers.

To say he's been 4 out of 10 every game is just clearly nonsense.

Both have struggled on the right, but that was when both were struggling full stop, Clarke looked fine on the right at the end of the Charlton game, although we want to continue to develop Egeli.

Broadly agree, Philogene looks a much better team player than last year. Could have been the match winner yesterday bar a good save. His physical size is always going to be a hindrance in a tough league like the Championship, but he shirks nothing and does his best. Defensively and tracking back, much improved. How he gets that rocket of a shot with his body weight and skinny legs, his timing of the shot must be impeccable. At the end of the day if we want him to score goals there is no choice other than to cut inside, especially being right footed. though I think he is pretty two-footed. Neither Philogene or Clarke look at home on the right so we have a wealth of talent on one side and not so much on the othe, though it is early days still for both right wingers. Bit of an imbalance though.

We don't need them both starting, to have Clarke come on against tired legs with 20 minutes to go where games can often be won works well, I think this is where we get the best out of him too...

We need to stop thinking that players get dropped to the bench, it's not like that anymore...

Some of the comments I read on these pages leave me baffled at times. I get that all the dumb comments are not all written by the same people but over the last few months we've had so much nonsense spouted it makes me wonder whether people actually understand the game or even support the club and its players.

The following players (and there could well be more) have gone from hero to zero or vice versa in the last 12 months:

Jack 47
Jack 14
Jaden
Jens
George 9
Jacob
Kieran

Football, for the most part is a game of momentum. The players are human and will all have good and bad days and that can be as much due to the nature of the opposition than their own lack of effort. Why do so many fans delight in slamming the brakes on certain players confidence?

This sort of criticism can turn proven and potentially good players away from the club - just look at how Aro is doing for both Sassuolo and Kosovo right now.

I'm not against fans being objective in their criticism of players, but if you can't maintain a certain level of proportion, at least show a bit of love and compassion for those who pull on a Town shirt.

We all work better when we're loved and appreciated.
