On Blue Monday Joe Fairs said we might have to stumble on something in terms of line up. Maybe he's right. There's no doubt Cajuste is aesthetically more pleasing than Taylor, but yesterday Taylor offered so much more of what we need alongside Matusiwa than we have seen from Cajuste (and Nunez for that matter) all season. With Szmodics and Akpom having to depart, might Nunez (actually I'd prefer Jack Clarke myself) get a run at No10? Similarly, I liked it that Walton didn't slow everything down as much as Palmer can do too. Stumble, stumble, stumble and ye shall find the recipe? Maybe Mr Fairs nailed it. Early days but hope Jack Taylor for one gets a bit of a run to see how it works.

Walton was often looking to get the ball forward quickly, but no Town player was looking for it, or ready. Instead, it was played in the much over coached fashion of “ patiently out from the back, boys, whatever the situation”. Far too limiting ….
I think if KM isn't going to be using taylor weekly. I do hope his performance however is a statement to others in that midfield role of exactly how much effort you have to put in.
Forgetting some misplaced passes. It happened to all. But he was everywhere yesterday.
Imo the reason we struggled on Friday and Tues was that off the ball running. Taylor didn't stop. I think there was maybe one issue with not coming onto a player who had a fair amount of space to get a shot in but I'm sure that will be pointed out.
A weekly spot.. I dont think he'll get it. But it defo showed the levels required in that role next to azor imo.

Agree on the effort levels. A double pivot asks so much of the two players and I don't think Cajuste has offered enough of the gritty, ground coverage stuff myself. Maybe Taylor won't nail the spot long term but he has to play at QPR doesn't he?

The thing is as much as I love cajuste. Yesterday at times on the left we had a trip of davis. Taylor philogene interchanging like the old days of luongo broady and Davis. Then we lost the ball. But suddenly taylor was picking it up on the left with davis still high.
It worked really well.
It's that thing again isn't it... the likes of cajuste. Nunez etc. Better In a three rather than a two perhaps.

I do wonder if Cajuste was feeling his knee a bit, hence being left on the bench.
That said Jack Taylor did himself no harm at all yesterday.

Spot on, I dont believe that Taylor is our 'best' midfielder however he showed everyone on the pitch how to put a shift in.
If he is our 4th best midfielder then our squad should be absolutely owning games. It just a shame sometimes our starters going missing.

Being the 'best' player is an individual thing and does not always equate to being the best fit for the team. Right now, that's where, in my opinion at least, Jens Cajuste is. Lovely player, technically far more gifted than Taylor (and indeed Matusiwa) but what he offers in a double pivot at least, isn't what is required. Taylor, nowhere near as talented but his performance yesterday was what the team balance needed.
Yeah, I think there's some truth in this, for all the thinking and meticulous planning KM puts in, yesterday being forced to put Nunez in the 10 was a real game changer, no pun intended. There's been a few of us calling for 4 3 3 and maybe putting Nunez as a nominal 10 is a good half way house between Kierans beloved 4 2 3 1 and 4 3 3. Without meaning to sound harsh, part of me does hope Akpom and SS will be out for a week or so with their knocks so McKenna is forced to play Nunez again.
On the other hand, it was him who decided to play Taylor and Kipre, and he who made the subs who won us the game so it's not as if he isn't proactively trying to find the solutions himself.

Yes, Taylor has to start at QPR.
I think someone suggested this recently, and I think I might have pooh-poohed it (and might now be pooh-poohing my pooh-pooh, to quote General Melchett), but actually Cajuste could make a hell of a dangerous number 10, in certain circumstances.
I caveat by saying that I doubt he would really play there for us because he wouldn't be able to do the pressing for 60 minutes, but in terms of a player with the strength and defender-skinning capabilities he has, he would scare the life out of a centre back with little to no cover behind him. When he drops a shoulder and beats a CM there's another bank of four to beat, but if he was doing that on the last (or second last) man, that's a real threat.
If he's not starting, he could be very effective coming on there late in a game which is still quite open, maybe?

I really liked his performance yesterday. Couple of good breaks forward and the pass of the match to put Nunez in. He also knew when to keep it simple which is what Cajuste struggles with the most . We've seen this from him before but the problem has always been putting it together consistently so will have to wait and see.

The positive re Taylor yesterday was he received the ball early in the game where he only really had WBA players near him, and Instead of what our players normally do play back to a defender, he attacked the WBA defence. You could see that meant they moved a couple of players closer to him after that but that will create gaps in other areas for Town.
We saw on Tuesday how Charlton used that approach and it caused panic in the Town defence. We need more of that, than the constant passing backwards.
Obviously he needs to be consistent, which has been his issue. Although I have a feeling KM will revert back to Cajuste and Matusiwa for QPR.

Let's not forget Cajuste's contribution to the goal yesterday. He can definitely put his own shift in, he just does so in a calmer way. But Taylor did play well.
