| Woolfy having an absolute shocker against Moore on 00:13 - Nov 1 by redrickstuhaart | So.... a single performance, by a player who has barely played for a year and is not going to be sharp, is reason to ignore some obvious significant failings of others, and several years of consistency, and an impact on our side's ability to move and pass the ball through the phases? Righto. |
I think the rhetoric over the last year (again only by some) that Woolfendon should have been playing over our current defenders wasn't correct. I don't think we were ever a more solid unit defensively with Woolfy in reality though he was good in possession and let's have it right played his part in a double promotion side! This post is a bit harsh on Woolfy to make as well truth be told even though he did have a mare second half. But the moment he came out with a bit of a dagger comment against McKenna and the club suggesting he didn't play due to politics is the moment some critique is fair game when he can't back it up in reality.

Your last paragraph is spot on, and when you look at the way Chaplin spoke about the club - having been in a similar position to Woolfenden last season not getting many games (when fit) - is chalk and cheese. Only 2 days previous was Chaplin starting for us before he was out the door, and judging by his Portsmouth interview he barely wanted to be there and spent most of it talking about us. I loved Woolfie, and was genuinely upset to see him go, but that interview/comment irked me, as it clearly did McKenna given his response.

...except that we weren't in this league when we didn't keep him. Mind you, he might have poached a few headers even in the Prem.

I wouldn't have minded Keiffer being signed in the Summer. As a plan B type off the bench. And some rotation for Hirst. Not sure we could have offered him regular starts though. I like him. You know what you're getting with Keiffer.. Causes a bit of chaos and is pretty consistent in his overall game. Surprised how many minutes he's been getting at Wrexham, tbf... Done the full 90 regularly. And seems to be holding up OK fitness wise. Plus, he adds that bit of experience and leadership..

Who knows we might have had conversations with him/his agent. No way we were competing with the 3 year deal that Wrexham were offering though.

Wrexham deal/move really is perfect for him at this stage if his career. Would like to have kept him when we went up. To be fair we might even have had discussions but get impression he just wants to play having done the bench thing in the Prem. Al understandable really.

The vast majority of the anti Woolfy lot is purely jealously because he was popular with the femail supporters and its nothing to do with his performances on.the pitch. Plus if they're judging him on one game they clearly didnt watch us against Charlton. Where O'Shea's defending was at best schoolboy level, and that is potentially being unkind to schoolboys.

You are so wrong. His biggest critic, ArnieM, is all woman. Like a real female. She obviously isn't in the slightest bit charmed by him. It's simple - Woolfy got a bit gobby when he should have just got his head down and got on with being a pro footballer and letting his football do the talking. He's lost quite a bit of support through this.

Would have been a significantly better option than Ali. We should have signed him but he went early in that window at a point when I assume we thought we’d get better.

Not that Wrexham were in the conversation when we were promoted Sheffield United stole in there and he was close to gettinf them over the line, given the disaster odf getting a 3rd striker in, we could have done worse in resigning Moore He"d have probably been useful against these low block sides

I think the cheap pot shots would be being made even if Woolfenden had kept quiet. However, I do agree his unnecessary remarks has made open season on him more understandable.
