| Norwich fans abusing wives and young kids yesterday 09:38 - Nov 2 with 5741 views | Mullet | This isn’t a dig, because I think we’d have similar scumbags in our ranks based on previous, but it does make me wonder where some peoples’ lines are. This is a horrible read and seems to be true based on the responses. Baffling to think that as much as we all love the game, our club etc people still think this stuff is ok. | |

| Norwich fans abusing wives and young kids yesterday on 19:52 - Nov 2 with 927 views | farkenhell | Many years ago, whilst at university, I got talking to a Greek girl on my course. She knew I was mad on football and during our conversation, she told me that her brother played for a Greek professional club (I can't remember which one). As she watched my open mouth and looks of admiration, she then described the horrific abuse that her family received from fans whenever he had a bad game. So much so that the family (who were football mad and understandably proud of the lad) had long ceased to attend his matches. I remember thinking how lucky we were not to have that level of sh!t in this country. Fast forward 35 years and it's arrived. | | | |

That guy really seems to think he's Mr Norwich City. I would think a fair few Norwich supporters think he's a bit of a wally.

It’s arrived and it’s wrong. There are two elements to this. The problem lies with the abusers not the abused and if a club gets to the stage where people cannot take their families to games, clubs like Norwich and ourselves are finished. It is sport, not war. If the boneheads feel they have the right to demand and impose their pathetic inadequacies at the expense of the rest of us, they need to be dealt with. It doesn’t matter if it’s our finest dishing out disgusting personal abuse to McCarthy outside Brentford’s ground or playerrs’ families getting the treatment at Norwich it is inexcusable and unacceptable. Passion, support, joy and disappointment. All part of it. Descending to the levels I see happening more and more is not part of it.

Quite. I can't work out whether he is disbelieved because of an antipathy towards religion, or because he has an official role connected to a club hierarchy which is currently despised. Either way, he's spoken out to call for people to behave well to each other. Making up a whole story in order to call for unity and respect is so low that you surely have to have some evidence of this guy being a really bad egg before you favour an assumption of "it wouldn't have happened" over an eye witness saying "it did happen". Why are people so 100% sure of their world view, to the detriment of any kind of trust in others? I would add that if he /has/ made this up, he shouldn't be club chaplain any longer, and I would be surprised if there was a clamour for a new incumbent being appointed.

Totally effing unacceptable, and illegal to boot, under section five of the public order act. That fan blaming the mothers for bringing kids to “such a game” is not only embarrassing but really depressing. Get. A. Fooking. Grip. Feel a bit sorry for the vast majority of Nodge fans being tarred with this, similar to feeling a bit ashamed by the McCarthy abuse post Bees.

Yep and his family stopped attending games due to the abuse too. Felt awful for his wife in particular who along with Mick was doing a lot of good stuff in the community that they didn't feel the need to draw attention too. I think we are all guilty of letting our emotions get the better of us around football, but some of the persistent treatment of people trying their best in sometimes impossible conditions for success is shameful. You are never more than 6 months away from the same person who chipped in for a Christmas hamper calling you a c**t in this sport. It can't go on like this... It can. And will sadly.

The absolute scumbags who were calling McCarthy a paedophile amongst other things. Just because he had the temerity to be in charge when we lost a game of football.

Yes, it is "near the same". It's absolutely disgusting behaviour, and if your account is correct, and I have no reason to disbelieve you, others present also felt it was disgusting behaviour and shouted it down. The story here is that "something disgusting has happened to absolutely innocent people", and that tells us something both about our sport and, more importantly, society at large. The story here isn't "Norwich fans are worse than Ipswich fans". Anyone who reads about this and their first thought isn't empathy for Mums with their kids, but instead either "We are better than Norwich", or "Haha! This is funny because it is Norwich." needs to take a look at their value system. Which is where the Chaplain is coming from in his remarks to Norwich supporters.

Ah so you’ve somehow not seen or noticed we have scumbags in our ranks, so it can’t happen? Don’t you live in Cyprus still? Maybe that’s a factor. The woman who got punched in liberec by a drunk town fan springs to mind, the time we had a thread on here about someone upsetting Jordan Spences missus (albeit much milder) too. We’ve got plenty who think a bit of beak and a stone island knock off makes them invincible, let alone the overtly racist, sexist and whatnot fans you see at games and social media. These attitudes aren’t immune to us, it’s pathetic to even try and make out it’s some sort of Norwich thing.

Of course we have fans that let us down from time to time, that's life. But a gang of young men hovering outside the players entrance waiting for people to come out and then abusing the players (fair enough that happens and will happen again) but then, as reported widely, abusing women and children is a completely different ball game. There are some on here who seem all to ready to have ago at other Town fans who as a group have a pretty good reputation for getting behind the team in the correct manner. [Post edited 3 Nov 13:04]

It's not a question of comparing both incidents. It's highlighting the scumbag behaviour itself. Mullet, quite rightly, pointed out that we're not immune, every club has them and he asked where people's lines are. You asked for an example and I gave you one. Like any right-minded person, I doubt you think it's excusable for anyone to abuse the manager with shouts of "paedophile", even if it was just a couple of blokes.

What happened at Carrot Road yesterday was disgusting and inexcusable. What happened to McCarthy at Brentford all those years ago was equally disgusting and inexcusable. That's not anyone chomping at the bit to have a go at Town fans. It's pointing out behaviour that, to borrow a line from a past sitcom, went so far beyond the line that you can't even see the line!

You’ve got it wrong, it’s been explained to you, other people explained to you why you’re wrong. Yet you persist talking nonsense. Honestly, wind it in.
