Minute's silence 07:32 - Nov 5 with 3325 viewsZx1988

I find that absolutely bawling "SHUT UP YOU [EXPLETIVE]" at some low level murmuring really helps to add to the ambience.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Can't say I noticed.

Was too busy eating my hot dog.

I just looked at your pen name and it took me back to the early to mid eighties at Portman Road. Watford were in town and I had heard so much about how good John Barnes was so I was looking forward to closer look. JB played well and from memory he scored one of your goals, but Luther Blissett scored the other two. Which was no mean feat after being up against Terry Butcher and Russell Osman. It finished 3-3 and was a great match. oh the memories.

For a match in October a good two weeks before Remembrance Day.

Football has got so far up it's own backside by feeling it absolutely essential for every club to commemorate Remembrance Day in a home game at some stage. This is football. Every fan will have their own opportunity to recognise Remembrance day ON THE DAY ITSELF. if they so wish.

That's a fair point. However staff could have warned them going in and the bugle was being played on the PA.

Everyone near me observed the minutes silence, well done to the parents and their kids who showed respect.

Well technically none of us observed THE silence, there was a silence observed apart from the one abberation obviously, so I guess we claim we did our bit

But the silence is supposed to start after the last post has finished, the last post doesn't signify the end of it, goto a remembrance ceremony on Sunday and you will see how its meant to be done.

Remember they even said the referee will blow his whistle to end it not please applaud and cheer loudly as soon as the last post finishes.

Yet every year we get the same thing

I'm pretty sure that the Town players (and those who travel away) will get to commemorate/celebrate remembrance on no less than three separate occasions.

That group must be winning remembrance by a long chalk this year.

Although I'm not sure it trumps the other year when, if I remember correctly, we had three(?) home games during 'Remembrance Week', and the club decided to have a minute's silence at all three.

Won’t beat the year at Millwall where Town fans politely clapped at the end of the Last Post but seemingly there was supposed to be a period of silence after; cue Millwall fans charging along the side stands to hurl abuse and shout as somehow we were doing it as some defiant stand against the war dead.

Made me laugh for about 15 minutes.

Over the years no fans more respectful and impeccably behaved under all circumstances than those of Millwall..

You were the only person who impeccably observed the '15 minutes' laugh', then!

I think that's something that should be instituted for all future games against Millwall...

Indeed, the BBC's coverage of the service and march on Sunday, and before that the poignant interviews with family members of dead soldiers is always far more thought-provoking and reflective than ever more elaborate rituals at football grounds.

(And ours wasn't particularly over the top, just a bit crap).

This well known Twitter account pretty much tells its own story of just how ridiculous Football Remembrance is.

We were about to hire Paul Lambert and so the laughing soon stopped.

I was in Sir Alf Ramsey Upper, it was a Watford fan shouting "Hornets" who was told to shut up. It happened during the last post.
How hard is it to shut up for one minutes silence?
Have some respect.

It happened against Colchester as well.

I think they had just come up the stairs into the stand when it happened so may not have known

Minute's silence on 10:27 - Nov 5 by noggin

It was the 4th November, I really don't get why there needs to be any kind of marking for Remembrance at football matches. The silence was (almost) impeccable, but I do wonder how many were actually thinking about, and feeling grateful for, the sacrifice of the war generations and the freedoms they fought for. We seem to have forgotten the true meaning of Remembrance. Poppies on football shirts and football flags just seem to dilute the actual occasion, in my opinion.

As someone who’s brother-in-law was very nearly killed in Helmand, and ended up losing both legs, i absolutely think its important and something we should recognise and not forget. It is not just WW1 and WW2 but many more recent wars for whom many football fans will know people who have been in conflict. Living in Germany I also knew people who fought, and some who died in the Falklands.

You shall remember them, on the 11th.

I am accidentally winning remembrance this year.

I have a massage booked for 11am on 11 November.

It was free, and I booked it without thinking.

Maybe I'll ask her to play the last post on repeat.

There will be no happy endings.

I suspect thats right. More often than not the noise you hear is from the concourses. I’ll be honest I completely forgot before the game that this would take place, so can understand how this might happen.

Bottom line is that the silence was impeccably observed by virtually the entire crowd
