| For me, an outstanding performance 23:24 - Nov 8 with 1926 views | itfcsuth | The result and 3 points is obviously crucial, but for me importantly today it was a result underpinned by an outstanding performance, previously felt like results overshadowed performances. Thought we were outstanding today, maybe 5/10 minutes throughout the game we got a bit sloppy but on the whole dominated that game. Jack Taylor and Jack Clarke the standout performers, full of praise for Jack Clarke today, who I’ve critiqued, thought he was electric all round today, not just his goal, but his all round contribution. Absolutely buzzing to see us hit that standard, refresh over the international break boys, because we are going on a big run! COYB! | | | | |
| For me, an outstanding performance on 23:31 - Nov 8 with 1837 views | FrimleyBlue | I think for me when sides make a clear change in shape as Swansea did today. We need a tactical injury so km gets time to talk to the lads. The wobbles we go through tends to fit the periods when teams change shapes and we struggle to adjust.. that's when walton needs to go down for a bit. Can't take him off and gives us time to slow things down. Reset and get going again. | |

| For me, an outstanding performance on 23:32 - Nov 8 with 1835 views | ArnoldMoorhen | I think that's a fair summary. First half we did all the boring stuff really, really well: excellent energy, and an effective press that didn't let them settle. They didn't look like the Home side. We didn't quite hit top gear in attack, but it was a Half in which we set up the game, not least by virtue of so many of their players being on yellow cards, because they couldn't stop us fairly. Second Half was more of the same, but with more incisive through balls, a more stretched game as time wore on, and extra energy from the subs at the same time as Swansea appeared to want to throw in the towel. Excellent effort and application, and commitment to a game plan that got the result over the 90 minutes. Walton's save was also very important: they had just started to believe in themselves when he pulled off that blinder, and we reasserted dominance. | | | |
| For me, an outstanding performance on 23:42 - Nov 8 with 1780 views | BouncebackIpswich | Yup. 2 4-1 away wins on the road back to back can't be sniffed at and there's a clear sign in both games we are starting to use our superiority in quality to overwhelm teams, and the first signs of being clinical today. Even the 1-1 draw with Watford where we didn't start our best team would have been a win 8 or 9 times out of 10. Encouraging signs. I'm still not convinced we make top 2 but playoffs looks nailed on from here, for me | | | |
| Good post. Fans seemed to underestimate performance. Davis made a good point on 23:43 - Nov 8 with 1776 views | unstableblue | To your main point - Town really were strong today, cohesive and dominant in that game. I think we blew them away in the first 25mins. The press, the energy, the running, and individual quality on the ball. Sadly we didn’t score. But I think the pattern and shape of the game was set. We needed some magic to kick on from dangerous moments into a score. It’s a top top finish and move from Clarke and Town. And we have the players or those moments this season. Davis made a good point in his post match interview, Swansea came out at us after their goal, and as Leif stated, once teams do that Town can hurt them. Great The Spaniard scored, we need more goals in the frontline. Loved that he got to do the fist pump to the away fans. | |

I’ll be honest, I didn’t massively notice an in game change of shape from Swansea, thought they were pretty much a 3-4-3/5-4–1 throughout the first half. Thought they were really trying to jump us with their press with their front 3, but didn’t think that would last energy wise, and would naturally leave gaps if we could beat it. Had a 5 minute spell in the first half where they had a little bit of threat, as much as we got sloppy, and the game became a bit stop/start.

Agree, Swansea were trying to get close to us, not always legally, but their intensity you thought would wear thin, and I think we controlled the game well in the first half. Fairly play after the break scored a decent enough goal, but the importance of the Leif Davis goal (OG) to retake the lead within 5 minutes was massive - felt like it sucked the life out of them and we just flexed our muscle a bit a controlled through to the end. Walton save was a massive moment, and what a save it was!

Think McKenna has spoken a lot about the first goal being important, but think Davis’ goal (OG) was the real big goal, sucked the absolute life out of Swansea. Think they had a game plan to be fair, they were trying to jump us with a front three, but never thought it could last with the intensity, and I think we showed quality with the ball in the first half to handle their press well and beat it and open up spaces higher up the pitch. Was really impressed with the performance today, which was my main pleasing factor, at times whilst we have had some good results, I’ve felt they overshadowed the performance levels. Today was a big moment to marry up a performance and a result. [Post edited 9 Nov 0:42]

it wasn't first half, it was second and part of the issue that lead to their goal, they made subs at HT, changed it up and we didn't adjust well. it's ok we did in the end, but i think a nice tactical injury would have helped initially.

We seem to concede far too easily from low crosses into our box. Mostly from our right hand side. We also appear to concede from the opposition’s first meaningful attack. And after doing so have a period where we are vulnerable to a second. I’d be interested to see the stats for goals conceded compared to attacks by the opposition vs goals scored by us compared to the number of our attacks. We seem to dominate teams from the start with very little return. That may sound overly negative after a second convincing 4-1 win away from home but it’s something we need to address. Because if we can turn first half domination into goals and cut out conceding from the opposition’s first meaningful attack the I see us finishing in the top 2 very comfortably . Totally agree, we need to become ruthless at home. These defeat to Charlton and draw to Watford should’ve really been another 5 points for us, if we want to avoid the lottery of the play offs. Although a day at Wembley would be nice.

Looking at it our defensive line was ok and was ready for any ball going across the box. But the slight pull back our 2nd line just weren't picking players up. I mentioned yesterday is it a zonal defensive attribute as as you say its not the first time.

Stopping those crosses would help. That is something the right back needs to do.

This point about the yellow cards is interesting. Made me observe about the refereeing yesterday vs Watford. Yesterday the referee took change a bit more like you would see in the prem. more stoppages but not afraid of an early yellow when seeing repeat cynical fouls. Vs. In trying to let the game flow the Watford referee lost control of some of the game discipline and created more compounding issues in the second half in dodging some contentious decisions. As the poster points out - yesterday our progressive play got its ‘reward’ by placing the Swansea team more on the back foot when they realised they could not just break the game up with constant fouls.
| For me, an outstanding performance on 08:47 - Nov 9 with 843 views | franz_tyson | I really enjoyed the game and the result ... but... I thought we should have put that game to bed in the first half.... and then we let them back in....then we go ahead again... and if it wasn't for Walton-post-Matsusiwa on the line drama it would have been 2-2. Point is.... we're not clinical enough and we're not too far away from conceding. Definite improvements from the team and individuals which makes me feel we're going to be strong in the second half of the season. So we're getting there, but if we want to be top two we've got to be more clinical and not give teams a sniff. Watford a prime example. That performance was not great, but fine, and we were the better side but we dropped 2 points. You take your chances and you get 3 points. Having said that.... I'm really beginning to fancy us. If anything, we've not had the results our performances have warranted so I can't agree with your point that results have overshadowed performances. We've not hit top gear yet by any stretch, although the last couple of games it's started to look like we're getting there, however, we've probably not had the results we've deserved on the balance of play in games. All of the data supports this as well as the eye test. We deserved to beat Watford, should really have beaten Brizzle, we could easily have beaten Southampton, and I don't think anyone can claim any of our wins were fortunate. Some of our losses could have gone the other way, they've not been games where we've been completely outplayed and not created anything. The frustration has been that we've missed big chances and gifted silly goals but even when not at our best, we've been the better side more often than not this season. [Post edited 9 Nov 10:06]

I still don't think we are clinical enough and still very slow at times getting forward especially when we have a chance to break. For the second OG, if Burgess hadn't got it, whoever was sliding in behind him (Nunez, I think) would almost certainly have put the ball in the net anyway.

No but this was more about trajectory than finishing, pure physics. Same as Burgess, but intentional. It was only a few feet in front of where I was sitting. [Post edited 9 Nov 10:25]

Yes, strangely I've suddenly become more concerned about home games as we'll probably be faced with a low block in 90% of them, which will limit the chances we create and have to be clinical to win the matches. Away from home, we seem to have sussed it. Im hopeful we'll soon b winning week in week out home and away to be honest

Indeed, hence the comment we need to be clinical when we do create the chances or as the other poster put it ruthless, then Watford becomes 2 more points on the board and Charlton doesn't happen.
