Sausage and mash. 13:51 - Nov 21 with 2391 viewsBenters

With onion gravy washed down with a few pints of Mauldons Black Adder Stout.

Is there a better Anglo Saxon lunch on a cold and frosty day ?

Good choice, the sausage an mash or even the pie and mash ( if you ignore that cockney pie and mash nonsense) is an absolute classic choice.

The ploughman's is of course a Saxon classic but obviously not for this time of year.

Obviously roast beef with all the trimmings has to be mentioned, but personally I'm uncomfortable with eating Yorkshire puddings on a non Sunday. You have to have some rules or it's complete food anarchy.

You didn't mention how much you paid for it..

Lunch: A real good Cornish pastie from the local bakery with a nice strong mug of tea.

Sausage and mash + onion gravy sounds a better option.

It'd be alright if it wasn't for the sausages, the mash and the gravy.
Oh and the stout.

Just seen that it wasn’t

But they do do a nice cheap and cheerful sausage and mash!

A good pie, I had a very good beef one at lunchtime.

Beer choice was Bass which, whilst nice, doesn't match your stout.

I'd heard that your ploughman's was a 1970's invention to sell more Branston Pickle, but I could be ploughing a lone furrow on that one?

A good steak and ale pie, couple dollops of mash, and a nice cup of tea. That’s living alright. Pie situation here is dire. Costco does a decent chicken pot pie but there’s not much else.

They would deep fry that in Glasgow.

First curry recipe in print - 1747. First curry house - 1810

The Anglo Saxons also sorted out tea. They just don’t know how to do it abroad.
