We appear to have got a point more than Derby out of the matches (final whistle there pending), though. Both of us against teams in similar positions in the league too.

That said, not beating Wrexham today is disappointing.

Spot on. We're now a point outside the playoffs with the game in hand, and now five unbeaten. We're not going to win every game whether we like it or not, but yes, this was a disappointing result.

Plus, it should be said that McKenna has said patience is required. And so has Ashton, and Schwarz gave the same sort of impression the other night.

Well it only really matters in May doesn't it. And we are a game in hand win away from 3rd.

We're a very up and down team this season with a new side. We start to move towards a consistent side and every chance of 2nd.

The thing is what makes this so disappointing (or lucky) not sure which one really, is the league is absolutely SHITE.

We’d probably be almost out of the top 2 race if this was last year.

But we're one of the sh1te teams contributing to making it sh1te, according to most who were there today (I wasn't).

So we have lots of talented individuals who somehow aren't a good team (evidence being that we can't win against sh1te teams). Which going by today makes us sh1te too. You can't just lift us out of your statement & say it doesn't apply to us.

This league has got to be one of the poorest Championships in many years with every team except Coventry being very average yet we can’t seem to capitalise. Sooooo frustrating.

The 2 extra points Sunderland had in second would make all that difference?

It really isn't unusual for there to be a lack of consistency in this league. It was our promotion season that was the more unusual one with 3 or 4 teams doing consistently well.

It matters little who the points are against (although taking them off rivals at the top always helps assuming we are up there!) Ultimately we need to win more games than we fail to and we are not doing that at the moment.

We are 6 points or so behind 2 PPG that the top 4 had last year, that isn’t nothing.

We can win against shite teams we just smashed Swansea but we struggling with home games against well organized mid table fodder. That doesnt mean we are there with them but means we are currently missing something.

And I never said it is. We are currently 6 points behind the current top two.

What I pointed out is that there is little difference between the 8 points it would have been at this stage last season and the 6 points it is at this stage this season. I read your comment as suggesting we are facing an easier task this season than we would have done last season despite the evidence suggesting there is very little difference.

We are 6 behind Boro and a long way behind Cov. I think wins are likely easier to come by this year as you can see by current make up of the top 6.

We need to go on a good run this side of Christmas.

Only the top 2 had 2pg or more. Leeds were admittedly close, but short (1.87).

We’re 1.6. Not good enough for top 2 yet, but not that much to make up. Our game in-hand is becoming increasingly significant. We’re still pushing the top of the form table (especially 10 games, which smooths out peaks and troughs in results), and pushing 1.8+ ppg- so improving vs the entire season to-date.

I’m disappointed with the result today, given our dominance, but all the data points to us being on an upwards trajectory. That keeps me positive. I’d be less positive if the data pointed towards a negative trajectory …

… but it doesn’t.

I get what you’re saying and I’m probably coming across as overly negative after a really frustrating home game.

However, there is a worry trend and pattern at home, so you agree? We haven’t played many above us yet, so those will become increasingly important. I’m not sure just playing a team more expansive will mean we will be fine. Going to be interesting to see for sure.

What’s was Leeds and Burnleys form second half of the season? I assume above 2PPG. I do worry about where some of the goals will come from in three tight home games.

Yes, it was another very frustrating home game. I came away from it like I did for Charlton, asking myself how we didn’t win a game that we mostly dominated (and had an enough ‘big chances’ to get a result.

I do think we’ll fair better against teams that come at us. We’ll have a better view of that over the next 4 weeks.

I’ll need to check Leeds’ & Burnley’s PPG for the 2nd half of last season, but I’m pretty sure you’re right, given the points they finished on. However, imo we are on the right trajectory, and there is no reason we can’t be >2ppg for the remainder of the season if we continue to improve. My ‘positive’ take from today - defensively we are improving each game, and a clean sheet (yeah, yeah - Wrexham weren’t ambitious, but in games not so long ago we’d have conspired to find a way to concede at least one goal ‘against the run of play’).

POST EDIT: Leeds & Burnley were inseparable for the 2nd half of last season at 2.2ppg.
