| Jack Clarke 11:24 - Nov 26 with 1292 views | DJR | I thought he had a decent game last night, and was the pick of our attacking players before the substitutions were made. He looked (understandably) disappointed to be taken off, and it seems a shame to me that we can't fit him in the team along with Philogene. Indeed, last night made be think whether our best team from an attacking point of view would him on the right, Phiolgene on the left, Egele as the No.10 and Akpom as the No.9. It would certainly be an attack with plenty of skill. [Post edited 26 Nov 11:25]

Its much harder to impress in those tight 1st halves in that position compared to coming on for the last 30 against tiring defences in a game that's opening up. Same on the other side and through the middle, Hirst, McAteer, Clarke did the job of beating them up a bit so Philogene, Egeli, Akpom could come on and enjoy themselves. Clarke's been on the other end of that plenty this season too.

For all the talk of players wanting to keep their place in the starting 11, I wonder if those in the 4 attacking positions actually quite like being the finisher. Much more opportunity to do the fun stuff rather than just graft for 70 minutes with no space to play in.

| Jack Clarke on 11:35 - Nov 26 with 1179 views | FrimleyBlue | I like JC, I do find often though he's incredibly predictable and doesn't protect the ball well at times leading to quite a number of interceptions. But he's getting better at his town role | |

| Jack Clarke on 11:39 - Nov 26 with 1152 views | gsoly | Being the pick of our attackers at the point he came off wasn't hugely difficult. Thought the whole front four were ineffective to that point. Certainly don't think he can grumble at coming off. | | | |
| Jack Clarke on 11:43 - Nov 26 with 1134 views | NedPlimpton | I thought he was quite poor last night, and I'm usually a big fan of his He created almost nothing all game, albeit not helped by Nunez's first touch constantly letting him down Compare that to when Jaden came on and almost instantly got a cross into the box. Leif also looked better with Jaden on the pitch rather than Clarke | | | |
| Jack Clarke on 11:46 - Nov 26 with 1111 views | Stenvict | I'm a big Clarke fan, but last night he was extremely poor. Got dispossessed multiple times because he was too slow to do anything with the ball. Jaden was so much better. | |

| Jack Clarke on 11:51 - Nov 26 with 1080 views | StokieBlue | I suggested that yesterday with regards to the attack. I think we will evolve towards that over the season with the wildcard being Burns who could be the right side attacker depending on what he's like after such a long lay off. SB | | | |

Maybe not at his finest in the first half but who else was apart from the more defensive players? We upped our game in the second half, and became much more of an attacking force, and Clarke had a big part in that until he was taken off. [Post edited 26 Nov 11:54]

| Jack Clarke on 11:58 - Nov 26 with 1013 views | southnorfolkblue | We’re far better off letting him and JP share the LW role.its their preferred position and it has worked really well being able to bring one of them on against tiring legs. It ain’t broke so don’t fix it. He didn’t have the best game last night but he’s always willing to try and beat his man. That inevitably means that he will be a bit hit and miss depends on how well he’s marked | |

They played two different positions though. Clarke was inside with Leif wide. It was like we had two 10's with Nunez the right 10. Jaden came on and played wide. Clarke's recent good performances have been playing quite wide. I do like the way Jack has improved with his tackling back and defending since he's been here.

You would think so wouldn't you, must be so frustrating to come off just as its starting to open up. Also where the different profiles become a bit more relevant, McAteer is probably a better starter than finisher. He'll work like a dog for an hour but you want the quality and X factor off the bench to really maximise the space in the last 30.
| Jack Clarke on 12:11 - Nov 26 with 920 views | Garv | Interesting how we all see it. I thought he was really quite poor. It looked like one of his PL performance where he runs down blind alleys and gets shoved off the ball too easily. Like Philogene he needs to start providing some assists, but overall he's been good with a happy nack of popping up with goals. | |

Yes, I suspect McK is easily able to sell the benefits of this to the individuals and it's been a big part of our most successful periods over the last few years. Bringing an in-form Ladapo on against tired League 1 defenders was almost cruel at times.

| Jack Clarke on 12:28 - Nov 26 with 832 views | Guthrum | The fundamental change in Jack Clarke since he arrived is how hard he chases, harries and battles to win the ball back, dropping deep if necessary to do so. Has made a fundamental difference to his game and how useful he is to the team. | |

He didn't have his best game last night but he went on a great run and put through a precision pass to hirst which should have been a goal.

| Jack Clarke on 13:59 - Nov 26 with 600 views | tractorshark | I've been really impressed with Clarke this season having been very frustrated by him last season. But I did think last night he reverted back to last season where he was easily knocked off the ball and caught in possession. That said, there is certainly an argument for trying to get both Philogene and Clarke in the same side, even if it is just in home games. | | | |

I agree with this. Out of interest, do you think that Philogene does the same, and if not, do you think he should do more, or that he has a different role/skillset such that he gets more of a free pass in the chasing and harrying department? I ask the question from the perspective of thinking that Philogene has had an awesome season, and generally being positive about him and his flashes of brilliance (which we badly need when we're trying to crack open these low blocks).
| Jack Clarke on 14:04 - Nov 26 with 586 views | jasondozzell | Struck by JC's workrate out of possession yet again last night. He's really worked at that part of his game. | | | |
| Jack Clarke on 14:09 - Nov 26 with 564 views | BrayBlue | DJR - you must have been watching a different game than I was, or talking about a different Jack Clarke! I thought he was appalling again last night. Summed up by an incident just before half-time, when he received the ball just inside the Hull box, he had two completely unmarked Town players to his right that he could easily have helped the ball onto. Instead he dithered, messed about trying to take a touch that wasn’t needed and then got closed down by the Hull defenders and the ball was cleared. Don’t get me wrong, I like Jack and think he has talent - but his decision-making at times baffles me. Cheers, JK | | | |

I think Philogene is excellent out of possession, McKenna said this a lot last season. He just does it in a different - perhaps more intelligent - way to Clarke.

No worries at all. It's all about opinions. But even though he has been sub more than he has played, he is our leading player when it comes to chances created, big chances created and goals per 90. https://www.fotmob.com/en-GB/leagues/48/stats/championship And even last night he put some decent passes into the danger area, but like the rest of the team struggled in the first half to get free against a very good press by Hull. That’s true, he wasn’t the only Town player who struggled to get going in the first half. Hopefully he’ll find some consistent form soon 🤞

Not quite to the same extent, or with the same ferocity, but perhaps more finesse. Philogene certainly isn't shirking his defensive duties. Howver, when Jack Clarke first arrived, he had a tendency to just saunter about when we didn't have the ball. Not any more.
