| What on earth has gone wrong? 21:46 - Dec 2 with 1240 views | BouncebackIpswich | How do you go from one of the most promising young managers in the game to one dimensional and out of ideas in the space of what a year? Also how on earth do you explain the appalling scattergun recruitment decisions over 2 seasons and all the money wasted on dross? Finally what on earth has happened to the team morale and spirit? Something just seems totally off at the club.im not even sure sacking the manager is the answer, he could just be the tip of the iceberg. It's like a totally different club to the one that went up. | | | | |

Maybe not, the recruitment has been shambolic, but he is still clearly not getting the best of them. Just seems so much is wrong at the club.
| What on earth has gone wrong? on 21:51 - Dec 2 with 1039 views | DavoIPB | He has been a good manager but was awful in the premier league. Far too easily outthought. We were very lucky promotion season. We scored a lot of late goals and relied on a Leeds fall away. We finished second in league1 behind Plymouth with a very expensive league one side. Tactically I think he is really poor and not sure what we work on in the training ground as our players seem to get worse each week and seem more disjointed each week. | | | |

Both fair points, but why have Town been playing such slow, dull football for most of the season?

| What on earth has gone wrong? on 21:54 - Dec 2 with 919 views | EddyJ | He hit on something that worked. He inherited a very good set of players in League One. He chanced upon a strange lopsided formation that people didn't know how to play against. He also had really strong leadership on the pitch. I don't think we can underestimate the influence Morsy had on McKenna's double promotion. Lets not forget the number of late goals he scored. Morsy was a winner. The double promotion team was clearly not good enough for the premier league and he was forced to change it. But the recruitment has been erratic. We have no clear game plan. We persist with tactics that clearly do not suit the players we have. Constant team changes. Its looking more and more likely that the double promotion was in spite of McKenna rather than because of him. This team is totally his and its really poor. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

In all seriousness though very good points. I guess data builds up over time with a manager, as others have said maybe need to change things up. Felt like a bit of momentum was building and then some flat performances, in the end it’s the results that are going to dictate morale, need to get winning again.

| What on earth has gone wrong? on 21:54 - Dec 2 with 858 views | Wallingford_Boy | Missed out on most our main targets, so then wasted it all on McAteer, Akpom, etc. Although Matusiwa, Kipre, Furlong, Azon, Nunez etc have done ok, they’re miles off Prem standard and wouldn’t get in many teams towards the top of this league. The squad isn’t as strong as many think, a lot of players yes, but lacking real quality. | |

| What on earth has gone wrong? on 21:57 - Dec 2 with 754 views | Blue_Heath | One trick pony and the game has moved on his tactics haven't. He thinks he's playing PL football but reality is Man City just signed a goalkeeper to save shots not fanny about at the back, football is changing opposition managers have worked out tippy, tappy teams. | |

| What on earth has gone wrong? on 21:57 - Dec 2 with 753 views | MrPotatoHead | Because we’ve switched a group of highly motivated, highly together players with a point to prove and desire to reach the top with a number (not all) of overpaid players who are here for the size of the pay cheque and little more. I can accept being outclassed but I can’t except being outran or outworked. It’s unforgivable and I feel a bit sorry for McKenna. Far too much change too quickly. I’d like to see him grow a pair and leave 2 or 3 of the biggest culprits out of the squad. Start putting some faith in Humphreys, he’s played in the 10 before. | | | |

100% agree with that. A great summary. In fairness, McKenna did get a very good League 1 squad performing way better than Cook had managed. This somehow carried over to the Championship, with very few meaningful signings. So maybe McKenna is a decent coach, but has no idea how to assemble a squad?

Mckenna's first real mistake. The 'big rotation plan' has failed. Time to find a first team and do it quick.

Almost exactly the same kind of scenario as followed our 5th in Prem season. Too many newbies in all at once in the summer. Collection of individuals, not a unified team. Talented young manager unable to rectify the situation. I think there's often a natural point at which a manager is unable to do anything more for a club than he already has. Maybe can no longer see the wood for the trees?

The promotion was in spite of him ? People are upvoting that ? My goodness. McKenna took a bunch of EFL journeymen and vastly inexperienced young players to the premier league. Playing glorious football, he was proactive with his substitutions, he created an incredible culture where the plays ran though brick walls for him. Sam Morsy was bang average under Paul Cook, McKenna took him up levels to the point where Sam Morsy was Captain of a premier league side at 33 years old. I like how you said he chanced upon a formation as opposed to giving him credit for implementing that formation lol. Embarrassing that people are willing to rewrite history like that. Pretty disrespectful if you ask me . [Post edited 2 Dec 22:48]
