| How much better would this team be doing? 10:25 - Dec 3 with 1251 views | ThisIsMyUsername | Hladky Clarke O'Shea Burgess Davis Matusiwa Morsy Egeli Chaplin Broadhead Hirst It's really hard to feel like too many changes have not been made. EDIT: General discussion: which players who've been let go from the back to back promotion team would you still like to be here and involved, and would offer more than their replacements? He hardly featured in the second half of the promotion season, Axel was a huge upgrade. Burgess started to look burnt out towards the end of the PL season. Chappers hadn't had any semblance of form for a long time. We need to move on. | | | |
| How much better would this team be doing? on 10:28 - Dec 3 with 1210 views | BlueOura | I can't imagine it would be doing any worse, but the 9 & 10 in that line up are still an issue for me if you want a team that can challenge for the top 2. | | | |

The recruitment has been pretty terrible for over a year now. Aside from Omari who we already had in the building, we’ve signed one player (Delap) who’s really been an improvement on anything we had before. The squad building for this season is what will cost us. Too many players playing in positions / roles they’re not suited to.

Honestly, because until just now I had forgotten about Tuanzebe and was looking for a few players who'd featured a good amount in those two seasons.

Completely forgot about Broadhead too (I'm running on very low sleep today). Edited to add him in.

Many who have moved on haven't done particularly well as the kings of anglia podcast recently highlighted. Let it be a good memory. SB

Different teams, coaching and management.

| How much better would this team be doing? on 11:01 - Dec 3 with 954 views | BrayBlue | The issue there is, that’s pretty much a team which tried and failed in the Premier League! Club had a clear choice last summer: keep the bulk of the team which won promotion together, knowing there’s a fair chance they could win promotion again but then what? Or, put together a new squad which might also get promoted, but which would hopefully have a better chance of prospering in the PL. Cheers, JK | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Clarke - many thought he was a liability - and as has been said, Axel was a huge upgrade. Broadie - he had moments of brilliance, but rarely took a game by the scruff of the neck, and was invisible in many games. Burgess - I liked him, but i'm not sure he's better than what we now have. So, I don't think they'd be doing any better. What the promo team had in spadeful's was confidence and togetherness. The present bunch are struggling in both - as KM has often alluded to when he says it takes time and shared experience to build the togetherness.

Yes I agree 100% For example does anyone think Harry Clarke would be better than Furlong? Not me that’s for sure. We all loved that promotion team but none would make the starting 11 now. Burgess may be only exception, good in the air but not sure it would be an automatic starter. The fact he ended up going to Swansea too, hardly a big step up. Also the ones that have moved on have hardly done well and make you think oh wish they hadn’t gone. Also there’s a couple that have burnt their bridges and I wouldn’t want them to return even if they wanted too. Yes we need a couple of players in but fresh faces, which I know carries a risk.
| How much better would this team be doing? on 16:49 - Dec 3 with 502 views | Nthsuffolkblue | It's impossible to tell but you have to remember none of those players are the same as they were 2 seasons ago. It is quite possible that Hladky would have made several bad errors leading to goals against us and any time he had initiated an attack we had failed to take the chance presented (our team has been doing that a lot). I doubt Clarke and Burgess would have made much difference. One has been injured for a while and the other hasn't been covering himself in glory this season. Morsy would probably be doing better than Taylor and add some punch to our midfield. However, he didn't do that well last season. Why did he end his contract abroad? What he does in January and ahead may give an idea of whether he is still the same player he was. Egeli is being eased into the team. Playing him too much now may well be detrimental to his progress. Chaplin can't get into the Portsmouth side and has been fairly ineffective for us before he left. I would love the Chappers of 2-3 seasons ago but I am not sure that's what we would get from him now. Broadhead is a miss. Wrexham's gain. However, this season he has 3 goals and 1 assist in 590 min. Jack Clarke has 6 goals and 2 assists in 806 min. Philogene has 6 goals and 1 assist in 1021 min. EDIT: Or, in short, certainly no better and probably worse. [Post edited 3 Dec 16:49]

Didn't that 9 and 10 combo win automatic promotion 18 months ago?

And didn't Akpom score 28 goals in the Championship 2.5 seasons ago as well?

| How much better would this team be doing? on 17:48 - Dec 3 with 377 views | Churchman | Hladky - good with his feet, found out second I’d half of promotion season. Decent shot stopper, command of his area: zilch. Walton is a better keeper. Clarke: great character, like him. Lots of injuries, hardly better than what we have Burgess: like him but he might have peaked in his time with us Morsy: 34, wanted a new challenge, was fading last year. Shame to lose him but time waits for nobody Chaplin: smashing player. Would add someth8ng if he can get his form back Tuanzebe: Premier quality defender. 49 appearances in two seasons, injury prone Broadhead: class player, not recaptured his ITFC form, last year of contract, decent money for him. Of the departed, Chaplin. He offers something different. Of the departed players, one not mentioned is Luongo. Fabulous player and was key to the promotion team. Shame age and at the moment injury has caught up with him. Yes, there have been too many changes. The manager has said that too. We got ripped about by so much progress and change so quickly. I’d add to that that two years ago we were rank underdogs, now we are on everyone’s radar. It does make a massive difference imho | |
