He's the glue.

That's it.

A priority this January has to be to sign a 'creative 10' or recall chappers if KM thinks he still has what it takes.

We are so much better when our no 10 has an eye for a pass.

I don't think we'll sign a ten. I think it'll either be recalling Chaplin or giving Humphreys a go there.

Humphreys who has had what, 7 minutes of league action this season?

I think we will see Egeli shift to the 10 more quickly and earlier in his town career than perhaps was envisaged. His pace of adaption to the English is quicker than hoped. He has the positional sense to get what we need out of the role better than others I would say. And then the combo of Clarke and burns (hopefully) on the right.
That then gives a head scratcher with Nunez and Taylor.

Personally I would like to see the odd game of 433 with Azor sitting behind Nunez and Cajuste/taylor with a front three of philo Hirst and sindre. I liked how Nunez and sindre were able to quite naturally invert positions a bit yesterday with Nunez heading out wide and sindre taking on the 10.

Yeah I agree, can’t get on board with all the plaudits. 6/10 today, maybe? He always has a few wonderful moments but he was completely absent in the first half and certainly isn’t a fit in the ten hole - no pace, and the couple of times players tried to drop a long ball onto his head were ridiculous. Good for free kicks and very occasional long passes (the first time outside of the boot was gorgeous), but very much a luxury player imo.

Is he a luxury if he's providing assists/goals?

Three goals scored, assist on Saturday and effectively set up the goal at Blackburn with the ball over the top. Also offering regular threats from corners, Azon's goal at Swansea the most recent.

Interesting take though.

The OinkUn is still desperately obsessed with Nacho as well.

Which was nice.

Or Chaplin with no goals or assists for either us or Pompey this season.

Having Burns back will us the 2 RW options that McKenna likes to have. So Sindre can move into the 10 (and probably Akpom to compete for the 9).

I really like Nunez, and I think we desperately need his quality on the ball, but not sure he fits the system. He isn't really a 10 and I feel like we lack legs when he plays alongside Azor.

Agreed. Only Leif and Clarke come close creatively for overall output, while Nunez has the official numbers to back up his contributions. 4 assists, double our next best. Most chances created, 27. Just Clarke has created more big chances. And Nunez has done it from 7 starts and 8 sub appearances (Leif's started 18 games). 3 goals on top, places him 4th in the squad.

For my money the luxury is playing second strikers in our creative hole, who so far have created little and haven't scored while filling it.

Agree. I'd love him in a midfield three ideally but it doesn't seem likely.

That's literally what has been happening.

Maybe luxury isn't quite the right word, but he subtracts in other areas. Taylor was having to cover Leif a lot so was dropping out of the centre of midfield but Nuñez wouldn't or couldn't come back to make up the numbers, so there were big holes on the first half. It didn't matter second half of course, because Coventry were chasing the game, but at 0-0 I would want more flexible positional awareness. They're all learning still, I suppose. 4 assists is decent (and looks especially good given the woeful contributions from elsewhere!). Similarly 3 goals is decent too. He's not bad! Just not amazing either.

Luongo did so routinely in our promotion seasons. It leaves spaces for the opposition to counter but that's part of balancing the risk. We didn't have Chaplin moving into central midfield when Leif bombed forward back in the day. We had him lurking between the D and the penalty spot.

Nunez being a deeper player by trade brings more positional solidity than other options imo. As mentioned by another poster above, there are times when we look more like a midfield three with him playing. I wouldn't describe him as amazing either but amazing isn't in our league. He is our most effective attacking player by some way, if you look at goals & assists per time on the pitch, or if you look at chance creation per time on the pitch, which is why the luxury tag felt odd.

Yeah that's fair. I suppose I'm seeing him as long periods of absence punctuated by very effective moments, which is great when we're winning but (maybe unfairly, I don't know) feels worrying when we are not. He's fine, I was just reacting to a lot of the man of the match chat. I thought Kipre was head and shoulders above most of them (literally in Nuñez's case...).
