The irony not lost, is he called for people to be deported and/or jailed for not showing compassion for Charlie Kirk.

Of course Charlie Kirk also said this in 2016:
"You can tell a lot about a person by the way they react when someone dies”

Yes, yes you can...

Yeah, that works too

What a weird case as well with their own, reasonably successful, son being arrested. It’s a fkd up world.

As you are all aware, I am a right-wing supporter, but that's an awful thing to think, let alone publish about, a great film director and his wife being murdered. And as if the poor family is not going through enough with the two murders, it now transpires that police have arrested the son, piling more anguish on the family, so Trump's unforgivable outburst is the last thing they need.

And there'll be no meaningful reaction to it – indeed it'll be lapped up in the right places. The quest to create a brainless, unpleasant, nihilistic society who have no means, and even less appetite, to stand up to power is rolling along nicely.

I find this the most worrying thing about his 2nd term, even more than the first time around I think they have realised he can kind of say or do anything and you don't have to apologise or backtrack as there is no consequence to anything. The first time I really noticed this was the Pete Hegseth Signal messaging fiasco where he invited in the journalist, your normal playbook there is someone takes the blame, resigns, and people move on; this time around though they have realised you can just not do any of that and move on regardless.

Trump is basically incompetent and quite thick, but god help us if someone competently evil comes along given what has been established by the orange one.

And now he's going ahead with his threatened defamation claim against the BBC. It is IMPOSSIBLE to 'defame' that man. Nothing derogatory could ever make him out to be worse than he actually is. The nerve of him to do this after the constant barrage of sh1t he pumps out, like the statement in the OP here.

I don’t see how they defamed him, so it should be quickly dismissed. There’s overwhelming evidence he encouraged the insurrection and was going to be facing charges before his reelection and subsequent abuse of power to get the charges dropped. He could have got them for lax editorial standards (or at least the production company who produced the documentary). But defamation, no.

Mind you, he’ll chuck endless cash at lawyers and anything could happen. Plus the BBC will have to spend a lot of public money defending the claim. Whatever the outcome it’ll be expensive. The bloke’s a monster and a menace and it’ll be one hell of a party when he’s gone lol.

As a Christian someone commented to me once that we are all flawed and God is at work in our lives and when we see other Christians we should think about what they would have been like had God not been at work in their lives.

If Trump is a Christian (which I would say he categorically is not), you would have to ask what would his non-Christian self have been like without God at work to make him better?!

Well said and an notable reminder that in our political systems those who vote for individuals can vehemently disagree with a lot about them. On the left, there are many who will still support and vote for Labour but have real problems with what Starmer does on many issues. Or there may be those who will support Greens but disagree with Polanski on a lot of things.

That really isn't a justification. By your logic we could take some of what you post and make out that you have said anything we want! Let's take this post alone and cut it about:

You said "i lie. i edit words in, edit some others out."

The BBC programme misrepresented the words by their edit. I think they could possibly defend the case on two grounds - that other things he said did give the same meaning (if they can find clear evidence of that) or that there is no defamation/misrepresentation of character (if they can show that). But I am no legal expert. I also suspect this is a case being held in a US state with no legal authority in the UK so will be an embarrassing technicality rather than a costly case. (Again I am no expert, though, so do not know.)

Trump's action against the BBC has overwhelming support on the comments section of Mail online.

Interesting to note also that things Truss and Badenoch have said form part of the Trump case.

"No less an authority than the United Kingdom’s former prime minister, Liz Truss, discussed this bias, the need to hold the BBC accountable, and the BBC’s pattern of actual malice.

Remarked Truss: “[The BBC] is a huge problem. They’ve lied, they’ve cheated, they’ve fiddled with footage, especially in the case of President Trump, but also covering up what’s happening in Britain whether it’s mass migration, whether it’s our economic problems, they are always biased towards the left . . . .” She was also asked whether the BBC’s tepid apology was sufficient, and responded: “No I don’t, because they keep doing it again and again. They have painted a completely false picture of President Trump in Britain over a number of years, they’vedone the same thing about conservatives in our country . . . .” Lamenting the BBC’s lost status as a “paragon” of journalism, she remarked that the BBC’s “fake news” has caused immense harm to the public for a long time."

"Conservative party leader and member of parliament Kemi Badenoch said that the distortion of the speech by the Panorama documentary was “absolutely shocking,” adding: “That is fake news, actually putting different things together to make something look different from what it actually was.” She continued: “And I do think heads should roll. Whoever it was who did that should be sacked, that’s what Tim Davie should be doing, identifying who put out misinformation, and sacking them.” Badenoch added: “The public need to be able to trust our public broadcaster .. . They should not be telling us things that are not true. This is a corporation that needs to hold itself to the highest standards, and that means that when we see people doing the wrong thing, they should be punished, they should be sacked.”

But when it comes to the regard much of the world has for the BBC, it is interesting to note that the Venezuelan opposition leader gave an exclusive interview to it when she emerged in Oslo.

"the BBC’s “fake news” has caused immense harm to the public for a long time."

Ironically that is the immense harm of enabling the election of repeated Conservative governments, Brexit, and the rise of anti-immigration and Reform. Most of which Truss is or did very much advocate for and is far from a left-leaning bias.

The truth is that the BBC runs a lot of content that could be seen as left-leaning and a lot that is very clearly right-leaning. Much of that which leans right is dedicated political coverage. The Panorama coverage is the exception rather than the rule.

Yes, he’s obviously lying there. As he is when he then went on to say that the BBC probably used AI to invent new words they then attributed to him. It’s clearly an editing issue, that may or may not have altered the meaning, and not the BBC making up words.

I can’t work out if he’s very clever at this misdirection stuff or is just as thick as a Boxing Day turd and doesn’t understand even simple concepts.

"an editing issue, that may or may not have altered the meaning" is very generous. It was taking two partial comments out of context to represent a meaning that was not actually stated and that is appalling editing. I cannot accept that it was accidental either.

I firmly believe Trump was inciting insurrection and should have been indicted for it. However, that Panorama edit is indefensible. I also think it is bad that the BBC are facing legal action over it. The publicity received is playing into Trump's hands I am sure.

US politics is suffering from a system that doesn't have an official leader of the opposition.

Indeed, and one aspect that is alien to us is the political parties do not have the formal leadership or membership structures that ours do. Anyone can rock up and say "I'm running as a Republican/Democrat" and if they get sufficient support they have a shot. There's no central party control.

In the case of Trump he's neither a true conservative or a Republican in the traditional sense, but he's captured so much of the public that the establishment got in line, with those that opposed him from within (Mitt Romney for example an early critic, those in the Bush, Cheney, McCain camps) all finding themselves quickly marginalised and with no formal mechanism to challenge beyond standing themselves, at great expense, politically and financially.

For both the Reps and Dems the primary system makes it easy for fringe candidates to build a head of steam and for moderates to find themselves shut out long before they can get to the convention stage.
