| Striker/Akpom on 12:59 - Dec 22 by Marshalls_Mullet | That would be a tricky one to negotiate. We have an obligation to buy for £7m if we go up, and we are sitting in 3rd place. Ajax aren't going to end the loan cheaply when they can see a £7m payday. |
Could there perhaps be a certain % of the season needs to be played for that obligation to take effect. Is that why we suddenly arent seeing him involved... We seemed desperate to make it work for him but hes become more of a sub now.

Norwegian season has just finished, wouldn't it be great if he was itching to be playing again and they wanted to raise some cash!

I've also never seen a player look so uninterested, his body language is awful. I'd love to get Jizz Horncamp in, funny name aside, looks a fox in the box in Dutch Football. Mind you, Bacauley Monne looked half decent last night for Zimbabwe, never stops running!

Not really. That's the nature of transfers. If he resurrected his Boro formthat 7 million would seem like a ship. Since then he's played champions League football and in two top flight leagues scoring double figures. Not set the world on fire but he was definitely a decent player, just hasn't worked out for whatever reason. Yet.

Akpom has never looked comfortable here but is there any basis for you being confident how we can end a season long loan agreement? This would almost certainly involve some complex negotiating with Ajax.

Further to my reply above.. there must be some figures required to turn a move into the obligated move. I can't see in football where a forward can sign have 1 goal and no assists ( i think) and that allows an obligated move.

P’d a lot up the wall at Premium prices, Sunderland have proved don’t need to buy at a high price. Akpom and smodiczs both got their goals as strikers - obviously McKenna likes Hurst . Azon looks good but with Nunez we can’t be playing the ball in the air and hope they can win it and drag it up the pitch. He does remind me of Pablo but he had kuqi!

does mike tresor fit your bill? it's totally up to the clubs what clauses they put into a loan, never heard of any that are based on number of assists! some are appearance-based, some are promotion-related, some are pure obligations no matter what happens

sunderland have spent a good deal more than we did on a more experienced championship base, not doing it on the cheap. xhaka's on a very healthy wage too, it's not all about the fees

Akpom scored 29 goals but not as a striker. Chuba Akpom's prolific season at Middlesbrough (2022-2023) came after he was moved from a traditional striker role to an attacking midfielder position, often playing as a "number 10" just behind the main forward. Under manager Michael Carrick, this tactical tweak allowed Akpom to thrive in a more fluid, creative role, where he was not constantly battling central defenders. He scored a total of 29 goals across all competitions that season (28 in the league), a tally that earned him the EFL Championship Player of the Year award and the league's Golden Boot.

Yes but as has been said to death he was a second striker, think little man off a big man, rather than a David Silva type creative attacking midfielder There to feed off the scraps from the target man and get on the end of chances, instead of being a chance creator. The term 10 is used in both instances but it's describing 2 totally different positions. [Post edited 23 Dec 18:35]

if you watch his highlight reel a lot of the goals are as a second striker. Very few are from a late run, Chaplin style. That Boro mifdfield looked more creative than ours and provided plenty of ammunition to him.
