Please, let’s not have… 19:41 - Dec 26 with 1024 viewsITFC_84

… 30-31 days of January p1ssing around for a makeshift no.9, a 5th choice CM and a reserve team RW. Ashton said we’ve got money to spend and will be active. Let’s be active in the 1st week and not wait until we’re nearly in February before much needed quality reinforcements come through the door.
Surely we’ve identified 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice targets…

Unfortunately the standard of striker we want will have options so won’t be rushing into anything.

Let’s hope they’ve been identified, they’ll be contacted on Jan 1st, and will be given a decent wages (+bonuses for promotion). If they don’t agree, move onto next. Surely, we’re an attractive proposition for many?

Forgetting the fact that any decent player in form would need to be replaced by their club

Nothing for 10 days, few mumblings from fanbase, get one in, then we’ll hear how hard the January market is, everyone is working hard, waiting for PL clubs to move first, competition for players and make a couple of late knee jerk additions late in the window.

Transfer market heritage.

Not our problem. Pay the money, get him in (whoever he is).

Let’s have none of this: “it’s a difficult window.”

We have more money than all other championship clubs and are a much better proposition than almost all of them.

Don’t forget they will need until April to gel, so don’t expect much this season from whoever is signed.

But what if the players we're interested in are also interesting lower PL teams?

Not sure how many you think there will be ? Probably 1 or 2 at best. We are fishing in a very difficult pond. The premier league will have many of them and the top championship ones will be at another championship club who will be highly unwilling to sell or abroad and have options.

It’s going to be another Keiffer scenario I would think.

I agree with your general points but to say “it’s not our problem” is rather simplistic. You can’t make a club sell a player Jan 1st just because we need them in urgently. They may not get a replacement until Jan 27th. Or not at all.

What a load of nonsense.

Selling teams are under no obligation to sell on our terms or timescales regardless of the funds we have.

Then the realistic shopping window is Championship level.

Which is fine, but as a fan base we should appreciate that it'll be incredibly tough to convince a higher league level player to come (unless perhaps on a loan) - no PL (for example) club will sell themselves short, nor do any player contracts expire in January.

This is all the hangover for being slow and not getting the striker business done early enough in the summer. "It's a difficult window" is multiple times more apt for January.

In Ashton we trust, etc

And this is why we’ll end up having threads criticising the club for not getting in a top quality striker in the first week. If it was easy, we’d always have all our first pick signings in the door at the start of the window. But we’re competing with other clubs, we’re competing with agents who are hawking their players around, and we’re having to take into account the demands of the selling club who may refuse an approach until they have a replacement lined up. We’re not the only club in the process unfortunately.

Realistically to get a jan striker i think itll be a loan.

I do indeed wonder if we may go for that Chelsea youngster we were linked with. I've seen mentions of that Leeds striker too.

So who were we slow over and why did we not get the ‘striker business done early enough in the summer’? Was Ashton too busy in his budgie smugglers in Magaluf topping up his artificial tan? Were there six or seven strikers like Izak queuing up to come here for £2 and a bag of salt and vinegar, but the phone never rang?

Or could it have been that the better players weigh up their options, it takes four parties to agree a deal (agent player two clubs), Suffolk might not be the most attractive place on earth for Carlos Bootaball to want to come, there aren’t that many players out there that fit the bill?

I don’t think it’s as easy to fill that position as it sounds, but what do I know? Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I think we missed a trick in the Prem. We should've signed some promising younger players in the Egeli mould and loaned them to Championship clubs then had them as options this season

I don't disagree with any of that but there were teams who got it done. Birmingham spring to mind.

I know hindsight is always 20/20 but it was a pretty big fail, which stands out quite starkly as we have done so well in the past few years at everything else. And we were in exactly the same place two seasons ago (huzzah for Keiffer), which is slightly frustrating
