Unless I’ve missed something- it’s all very quiet on the Szmodics front.

Been poorly a little while now…

If we are honest though he’s never fitted our system. He looks lost on the left, and ineffective as a 10. Really like him as a player and he scored in the PL for us but I don’t see how he fits into our plans.

He’s also incredibly injury prone so it’s a lot of wages for his output.

I can’t see what he’s going to offer us going forward. Basically a decent squad filler, but in my opinion he’s not the future. Sadly another victim of the speed of our success.

I do completely agree that starting rumours with no basis is not helpful.

However, Kieran has been very concise with his description of this one, and he's previously led us to believe that both Omari and Brandon Williams had illness/injury issues when in fact he knew that they were not going to be part of our squad going forward.

SS has not been the success we'd hoped for at Town, but he has ripped it up previously in this division. He would have suitors in this division, we're coming up to January, and we need to free up squad spaces for a goalscorer.

So given that McKenna has used illness as a bit of a smokescreen before, I don't think we can be surprised that the speculation is that SS might be lining up for a move. Not criticising Kieran btw, sometimes you have to do the best PR thing even if it means a lack of total transparency.

SS hasn't scored tons of goals but I think he's been an important player for us and would continue to be at this level.

Poll: Who do we think McKenna (not you) will partner Greaves with ?

We signed him to play in the PL! How is he a victim of our success?

He just hasn’t worked out, so far. A shame, he looked good pre injuries, and his goal at Spurs was special.

And when fit he was one of our better Premier League players. Kept Jack Clarke on the bench quite a bit. Shame he was injured mid season as he was a real goal threat in away games.

Signed to play in the Premier League, scored 4 goals in 13 starts in it and got injured (which coincided with us getting poorer results). Yes, he has been injured a lot both last season and this one, but to say he doesn't offer us anything is simply wrong.

There's every chance he is as it hasn't really worked out for anyone, but 99% of the time anyone purporting to be "in the know" about something amiss off-field is just being an arse for no reason (not that it was you obviously) and casting aspersions. Plenty peddling "100% won't see him again for off-field reasons" stuff about Godfrey earlier this year, which we then of course did.

Yes, absolutely agree. Desperate insecure stuff pretending to be in the know when one is not. I preferred it back in the old days when people would at least say that they had heard it down the pub, so we could all treat it with appropriate scepticism!

We all have differing interpretations of glass half full/empty on field results/performances. There's plenty to be positive or negative about that has /actually/ happened. It seems odd to make stuff up that is negative, but I suppose it takes all sorts!

I would love to see SS succeed at Town. But then, if there is to be a striking addition (and I think there really must be) we'll need to free up squad spaces somehow. Will be an interesting January window.

But even if we do no business at all, we're now hot on the heels of 2nd place. Onwards and upwards!

What's this thread all about?! He just got back from injury and was playing and now Ill. Not sure why all these rumours and expect he'll be back maybe for Portsmouth or the cup.

I’ll bet you a lot of money he won’t!! I know some people tow the line of only believing things that come out of mark Ashton’s mouth (or other bodily part) but you’ve been told Omari was ill and Williams was injured or ill before don’t forget…

However it's winter and people get sick, it's more plausible at this time of year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sammy himself wants to move on though, don't see him as a starter in this team.

So plausible that McKenna seems to never have any idea how he is and is always waiting to hear…

Yep, I get that and realise that I hadn’t thought it through too well!

But I would maintain that on the evidence so far (largely the result of injuries), should we get promoted we’ll need better than Smodders - hence my comment about not being the future.

I think the context is very different though.

In the PL we were likely to be hitting on the break and he could play up on the shoulder or get in behind which are his strengths. In this team which is possession heavy and facing a low block I don't think he is suited to playing in pockets and linking up play.

He would probably still score a decent amount but I don't think he would work as well for the team as other 10s or Nunez. I don't think he gets in on the LW ahead of Philogene and Clarke when we aren't playing on the break.

Pruned of messages which are potentially defamatory I would imagine....

Messages in question were carefully worded to avoid names or specific actions from what I saw.

I suspect it was more to avoid painting this site is poor light with the powers that be at ITFC. IMO Independant messages boards are exactly where personal opinions can and should be aired.

Yes and very much similar to how he played in the Blackburn team. No one was sitting in against them and he was very effective on the break. Think he put a couple past Leicester in a game they were heavily dominating.
