Love the fact that he was referred to on here as Phil Essex, the BBC article references Phil Taylor, and some of us would have known him originally by another surname. |

I'm no super fan in that respect I used to love been able to go to 4 or 5 away games a season. Having a season ticket I get all the home games.
I accepted I wouldn't get away tickets as I don't go often enough through choice as I like doing other things occasionally. All the best to everyone who gives up all their weekends. |
Same here. As ST-holders, the missus and I find the journeys to/from IP1 (a 10-12 hour "away day") every fortnight is plenty enough. |  |

17th August 2019, Peterborough away was my mums 1000th consecutive game. Home/away/cup/Europe and never missed a game. She hasn't missed a game since but I do not know and cannot be bothered to work out her current number!
I want to say the last missed game was a 3rd round fa cup replay in 1999 but I could be wrong there.
I also feel like we should apologise to the board in general as it was me and mother who first used to take sitters to away games when he was a young lad.... those were the days when he got scared at Leeds when all their fans charged on the pitch and tried to get to us.... so, yeah, sorry about that everyone!
Mother though.... she's an absolute legend! She was 70 a couple of days ago, here's to many, many more games | | | |

I thought Phil missed one game, some time after he made the 1000, but may be wrong (sorry, Phil, if I am). He remains ridiculously loyal though.
One other, lurker not poster, is on around 20 years (bar a very, very few pre-seasons), so that must be around 1000, based on 50 games a year. |

A poster on here’s Mum is on a 1000+ game streak I believe. A guy called Phil Essex is way further than that I think, obviously Covid games discounted, fairly IMO.
I personally haven't missed a game since Cheltenham on Easter Monday 2023 (foggy Oxford one before that) and as sad as it is I don’t want to break the streak  |

I am certainly no super fan. Miles off it. I’ve always had competing demands on my time and still do. Where I live, work, when young Saturday school, you name it. Even this Saturday I’m at an ABF lunch of all things.
By and large I’ve seen as many games as I can and have had a season ticket for a lot of years after the ground became all seater (I always preferred standing before that). So while no super fan I’ve always enjoyed going to live games.
I salute those that are. I knew a bloke through work who was born and lived in Surrey. He’d been a Man U all his life. A ‘plastic’ thought I, until I got to know him a little bit. He’d gone something like 16 years without missing a home or away game or a pre season friendly, including abroad. It was his life. He was certainly a ‘super fan’ - very knowledgeable on football generally too.
N.B. I put my season ticket up for resale for the midweek game coming up and it was resold within 24 hours. The the website isn’t the best for finding the place to do so, but the system does work. |  | | |
