Alf's first 200 games were in Div 3 (South)...

I'm pretty sure he managed us for two seasons at that level, so it wouldn't have been 200.

That's right. Two seasons in Division 3 South, followed by three seasons in Division 2 (then the title-winning season in Division 1).
| Let’s start praising him from the stands a lot more… on 21:59 - Jan 11 with 858 views | unstableblue | Before we know it he’ll be gone, and he deserves some praise. I think he’s quietly doing a strong job this term. May frustrate at times due to the pace bringing it out from the back. And the strikers aren’t firing. But chance to improved this over the next few months. | |

Will we look back and say, imagine if the Club had got him a proper #9? I’m not sure Delap was even ever bought as that, or certainly Kieran played a big part in him becoming that.

Even madder considering the win rate in his first Premier League season!

Chris - its interesting looking back at the Prem season, now the dust has settled. A few things for me: 1. Fixtures - I think we were unlucky to get Liverpool and Man City first, they were 'free hits' and certainly for Liverpool my word we gave them a game, but it unsettled us 2. Press/Energy/Confidence - our press and energy, and in part confidence was really good at the start. Liverpool at home the press was excellent, we just got undone by some real quality. We showed it again against Villa/Fulham and were really good in those games. 3. Beat your rivals - the Saints away game, we didn't turn up enough in the first half, we needed to really go for it at St Marys and get that win. It was a missed opportunity. Saints at home was a debacle. 4. Defensively we got it right at times, Brighton away, Spurs away.. but injury and mistake got us in the end. 5. Attacking and striker was an issue - delap, enciso (and others) and omari didn't transition quick enough and went down cul de sac. Too many promising breaks failed to hurt the opposition. We needed someone in front of Delpay as you say, and the fact we played El Hamadi was emblematic of the issue.

Sorry, but the word legend is for the likes of Robson and Ramsay who were managing at the highest level. Win percentages and stats from playing games two leagues lower than what they achieved their records in, cannot be compared.
