Kinda feel for the fella

Hes a solid player really. Nothing fancy. But hes what id call a proper team player when ever he plays. Kinda like a Jackson where you know theres limits But you give him a job and hell go out and do it and help others along the way.

Think its how im gonna view mcateer in the end too. Solid just not fancy options.

He's one of those utility players who can play pretty much anywhere but not expert enough in one position to make it his own. A very expensive sub at 35k a week I wouldn't feel too sorry for him!

As said before.... he's a pretty expensive sub. And someone who often doesn't make the bench.

Sorry, but on his wages and his PL background he should be a shoe-in at this level.

For him to break into this team he's got to do more than solid.

We need to offload him, but the wages will be a problem undoubtedly.

McAteer has more of a chance than Johnson. There's hope with him.

He's OK, but he should be a hell of a lot better.

If he didn't want to look up and hold the ball waiting for players to move into a perfect position before releasing the ball he'd be great, but he slows us down too much.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

Indeed, and makes too many unforced errors. Which is perhaps a symptom of never having a run in the team. He should probably move onto somewhere where he will get a run (because they don't have any other option) and play himself into form. The bits and bobs he gets here are no good for his career (even if the wages soften the blow).

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

He's often not been very solid at all, which is partly why he's rarely been trusted to play his favoured right back role. He's a decent enough footballer, reasonable technique but he seems to lack something, definitely prone to an error and can go missing in games. He's one that we'd look to move on should anyone come in for him I imagine.

We need more than solid from a player here on those kinda wages. We can get better back ups on far less a week. I would agree some kinda compo package with him and let him go.

There is a reason why he doesn’t play regularly. Judging him against Blackpool is one thing, but against better opposition, he’s been less than solid. Shaky at times.

He’s on nearly £2M a year and should be much better than he actually is. Can’t see too many other clubs paying that for what he offers.

He really frustrates me because he's actually got a really good touch and skillset as well as good strength and decent pace. With most players the unforced errors come from not having enough time on the ball, from Johnson they seem to come from having too much time on the ball.

It's a bit harsh, because I'm quite happy that he does a decent job for us when he does play, it's just that I feel he could be a real PL level player if he just played with a bit more urgency and instinct, rather than overthinking and slowing it down, and then getting caught on the ball.

Best backup we have for Furlong though.

I think that's the main problem with our team currently in that there's too many nearly men. Decent but unable to produce the goods. Not enough goals from a centre forward or midfield position. Without a solid defence and Clarke and Philogene's goals we are mid table.
You have those two who have scored more than the rest of the forward line put together.
Getting in players like Bamford who would probably want a two or three year contract is senseless as if we were promoted we would have to but Akpom at 7 million but neither he, Bamford or Hirst are prolific goalscorers.
Yes I know they are few and far between that is why a regular top class striker costs the best part of 100 million and unless we dig one up from somewhere we ain't paying that sort of money.
